I've been searching for a media player that has a waveform view like those in audio editors. I just discovered that the media browser in Reaper (fan boy rant) has a waveform view that loads songs in a respectable time, certainly useful enough for auditioning samples or tunes for a mix.

However, it isn't a media player in the sense that winamp or real player are media players. What Reapers media window lacks is the ability to play through a series of songs, randomly or in series etc.

Does anyone know of a media player that allows sequential playlists as well as offering a waveform view?

I was also wondering if other daws have a similar feature in their media browsers?

Tried both traktor and beatport + several other dj apps. They all seem to be over complicated and have ugly interfaces.

Surely someone knows of a simple media player with waveform view?

A Soundcloud desktop player would do the trick nicely

why do you want this ?

windows media player (shit) has a waveform visual but it is more zoomed in so you can see like the bass, hats ect.... not like the soundcloud player which looks like a big fat block.

I dunno, I'm just so accustomed to the waveform view of audio editors that it seems like a natural feature to have.

Having a timebar is standard for most media players, but being able to visualise the drops etc is better and more accurate than time bars. Kinda like how people learn the grooves on their favourite vinyl I suppose.

I've just dled it and fired it up. All the visualisations are live and respond to the audio in realtime. I'm ideally looking for something with a fixed waveform that allows me to skip to any point in a track by clicking on the waveform.

to do that you'd have to build the waveform for every track in your library an store the information - this is probably why its becoming a pain to look for something - i for one haven't come across anything like tis other than DJ apps -

You're right. Every time I audition a file in Reapers media browser, it builds a peak file.

I'm gunna make a feature request on the Reaper forum for the media player to be developed into a full standalone product!

Coders get on it! I think I could actually have use for something like that. If I want to see the wave form I usually just load it up in Sound Forge. Yeah there isn't anything like you are talking about that I know of.

itunes already has that visualizer, yeah? is it that impossible for someone w/ some programming knowledge to write some waveform code for that?

Like we were saying I think they all have the capability for real time analysis. What he is talking about is seeing the wave from as it appears in audio editors or dj programs or audio lanes in a DAW. That with coupled with playlists.

there was a thread a bout this a while ago on UAD forums, bloke had spent forever trying to find one, just doesn't appear to be one, which is weird.

A simple, as you say, waveform view, and can preview any type of file (well only really mp3, (flac?), wav and aiff nothing too esoteric), but there doesnt even appear to be one, which is weird for the pc, home of any kind of freeware at all...

He even offered some money on a programmers for hire type site..

MACs use audiofinder (i think?) which looks ideal.

so yeah, coders at your places... youd prob make a lot of money at $20-30 a go of whatever... plenty of pro producers desperate for this, and youd have a monoploy.

ill try to find uad thread, couple of options that weren't perfect but poss better than nothing.
