How long to you keep the track rolling before you mix in the next track?

i try mix as fast as poss, depending on how the crowd reacts and reloads etc.

Depends on the tracks and the particular mix I'm doing. I've found that usually when playing more wobbly stuff I'll start the next track either at the start of the breakdown and bring it in there, or wait until the 2nd drop and start to mix in from there.

With deeper stuff I let the tracks play longer to create nice smooth mixes.

Depends on the track and crowd but I would say at least mix into the 2nd drop that way you give the crowd a chance to get into the track and groove and gyrate and shit like that.. You don't want to mix out of tracks so fast the crowd can't dance and wrap its head around the track your playing.. Building Groove is so important..

i also try and concentrate on double drops in my mixes

no more than 2-3 minutes.. that seems to be about the standard crowd attention span nowadays

depends on the track, generally mix the next tune around the breakdown/second drop

3 minutes or so... but i tend to keep generic-ish stuff out of my sets. benga's a king at playing 32 bars of a tune before mixing super-fast into the next.

it really depends. A track rolling for ages and ages is not so great (depending on the track of course), but what also really bothers me is really quick mixing all the time. The thing I like about dubstep is the groove, and if you are mixing really quickly all the time the groove goes out the window... Quick works with wobble alright though, but I'm not such a fan...

mix fast or slow, but dont let the tune drag on :yawn:

since ive obviously heard the tracks im playing before ive always got this "better hurry up and mix the next track or theyll get bored!" mentality, i need to stop that.

dnb i do alot longer mixes than i do with dubstep or garage due to track structures
dubstep is kinda a pain for longer mixes with the 16 bar intros on alot of stuff and conflicting bass when it comes to dancefloor stuff
dnb good old 01 techstep had like 2 min intros which i love for mixing

yea i generally test stuff out in the lab before doing it out live especially since i like to write genre/tempo changing tunes specifically for a gig

I have a tendency to let the tunes roll out for a while when I am doing a recording or on the radio or just playing for myself. I have gotten past that stage where I just want to show off my skeeeilllz. When I play out tho I have a tendency to mix a lot faster. Sux because I'll play my whole set in 40 minutes and leave myself searching through my computer wondering what to play for the remainder.
