Bass Modulation

How would you go about modulating a bass to get that acceleration or deacceleration sound such as is found in Mistabishi's white collar grime or Excision/Datsik's Boom. Sounds like a quick LFO change plus alot of reverb and some form of expansion? I hear that sound alot but I continually fail at achieving something like it.

currently working with massive in ableton live, though I have reason, cubase etc just most commonly use either massive, simpler, or albino 3. If that helps any, I'll try your suggestion thanks

There's a few ways you can do it, and all depends on the sound you're going for.

Firstly, you can automate the LFO speed as JQ has explained.

Another way is to bounce a long (8 bar+) bass sound with an LFO modulating whatever you want (usually frequency) and load this into a sampler. When you pitch bend the note up the "LFO" will speed up and when pitching back down it will slow down. The pitch adds more movement to the sound rather than modulating LFO by itself on the same note. Combine this with layering, distorting, detuning and other forms of modulation for maximum mid range justice.
