hey just wondering if anyone on here suffers from tinitus at all? i have it a bit which is pretty shitty but i dont think i have it really bad. i just wanna know if people still produce with tinitus and if it effects production at all? im trying to be a bit more careful with my ears nowadays but finding that quite difficult aswell tbh.
any advice would be cool, cheers

i guess as long as youre careful and don't let it get any worse you'll be alright, seems you're taking the precautions which is good.
mate of mine who produces has got it pretty severely, it pisses him right off but he's still a sick producer.

I think I may have it really high up like 10-20 k can only notice it when everythings really quiet though, when i've been listening to stuff really loud it is more noticeable but It doesn't effect me too badly

I've got tinitus, its not too bad but its quite prominent when I try to sleep, one of the main causes of my insomnia. I would definately reccommend ear plugs. The sad thing is i'm only 18 and I have it. I was in a rock band for quite some time which is the cause of it.

yeah ive been in bands and stuff since i was 15 so ive been exposed to loud music, close up to speakers and stuff for over 5 years now. its not good really but i'd say it sounds pretty to what lowpass said, i only really notice it a lot when things are quiet around me. do people use ear plugs whilst producing?

yeah I reckon ear plugs are definitely the go. I think I would wear them even if I was djing (lol) - people say it buggers you up but I think if you did it long enough you would get used to it. Why damage your body for other people's enjoyment?
Also when producing I always try and keep the volume low. I turn it up sometimes but make an effort to turn it down pretty soon.

lol
ear plugs = used to attenuate really loud noises to a more tolerable level, usually at the cost of the frequency response, e.g cheap ear plugs shaving a lot of the high end off effectively acting as a lp filter to your ears. Certain musician earplugs are designed to give a more balanced response but still not perfect.
turning down the speakers while producing = more tolerable levels to your ears resulting in less ear fatigue meaning you can mix for longer. Mixing at quieter levels (not too quiet mind) will usually produce better mixes, less likely to annoy neighbours etc
which would you rather pick out of the 2?

don't forget that human ears do have self noise.
this means that even if you have perfect ears, you will still hear a slight hi freq hiss if its dead silent around.
sometimes when its really quiet at night i lie awake wondering if i have tinitus or if its just self noise. had my ears tested and they seem to be working fine..touch wood

I've never heard of self noise, could I have this instead?
It didn't make sense for me to have tinnitus this early, (19, don't go that many gigs, protect my ears a lot, monitor at reasonable levels)

over the last six months i would say i have really started to hear my tinnittus ,
i used to play alot of classic music in large orchestras/ jazz bands etc since i was about 11 and 19 now so yeh got it kinda bad, my old brass teacher had it pretty bad aswell he would have like 2 or 3 diff tones in his head at the same time lol , on thing he told me though to distinguish between self-noise (which will gt worse as ur get older btw) and tinnitus is is the tones ur hearing occasionally change timbre or frequency
mine deff do unfortunately , sound like you taking off a low pass filter off your hearing really quickly
have bin wearing plugs for a whie now but still dont DJ out with them in just dont like how much they distract me
does neone know a good place/company to get hearing test i wanna see my frequency range

I got tinnitus from producing in headphones and turning that shit up. Mostly in my left ear cuz my soundcard was fucked up. Stressing out about it definetely makes it worse, its highly psychological. I find if i dont smoke or drink as much it lessens the symptons substantially. I will never go out to the club without earplugs. It helps to have a little fan or something on your room at night to help you sleep, masking the sound. I live in the middle of downtown seattle next to the freeway so that does a good job of covering it up. Sucks ass though huh? : (
