It's tempting to say that the point at which a lot of people started finding the stuff in room two of a big club more fun and interesting than the stuff being played in the main room was not long after dubstep actually started getting played in the main room of big clubs. It's not like in 2003 awesome innovative dubstep was getting played in the main room at fabric or anything.
And it seems increasingly like the small clubs and the DJs and labels and producers doing the stuff that I enjoy are carving out a space that's somewhere seperate from the 'mainstream' of dubstep...
also for a long time when dubstep was still making in-roads into clubs it was the music of Room 2, the main floor has always been jump up..
so what has actually changed? Room 2 is still pon it yeah > ?

I naturally listen to more chill music, but there is some hype shit that's brilliant.

He doesnt go to many shows, but I know what he's saying... you dont have to go to shows to understand whats going on. Im getting pretty tired of every tune at a "dubstep" show sounding like every tune did at a "dnb" show 4 years ago.
I was one of the people in the "nah, its all dubstep, innit" camps for the longest time, but Im sorry... theres just too damn much music with too many influences now.

There is such a diverse range of styles represented in this wonderful music that all falls under the umbrella term of 'dubstep' that there needs to be a bit more distinction, if only for the ease of discussion and to be sure you know what you're getting into and paying your money for.
Look at house... theres what? 25+ different styles of house? But they're all recognizable as house, and classifying it into different catagories hasnt hurt the genre, not in the least.
All this ambiguity is only confusing matters
IMO.

I agree with everything you said... but I still think that for the sake of conversation and classification, there needs to be some sort of sub-genre in this thing we call dubstep. Ill let others classify my tunes, cause I dont really give a shit what you call them - to me they're "originals" - but for everyone else, its a lot easier to describe if theres a bit of distinction.
