i come here to find interesting new music in the same nature as garage, but it's also nice to discuss traditional house/techno (detroit, chicago style) because most other forums out there have shit for discussion.
i think "house" works because it centers upon dance music with empowering synthesizers, like someone else stated, that provoke a certain mood and calmness.
applicable to all sounds that people place under house, not just the style of this particular song.
100% Agree.

I've been lurking this forum for three years, and I think this subforum is one of the best things to ever happen to the site as a whole, so much so that I felt spurred to post this:
Leave things the way they are now!

Room 2 is a perfect name, God, I wish I would've thought of it. Room 2 says it all.
I would also like to say that I'm up for a label release subsection like the events. I could see people posting to both, but I think labels with tact will only post to the one area if it's there. It works well with other forums I find, it could work here. It would cut down on release info quite a bit, surely, but will still give people a place to look for what's coming up (I look at pretty much every release listing here).
Also, future garage with huge drops: I can see it, hahaha. What would replace that annoying midrange "bass" sound for aggro-future-garage? I'm putting my money on brass samples. Facemelting french horns.

seems a bit like everyone's trying to distance themselves from dubstep because it's not "cool" any more tbh. i can understand artists wanting to disassociate themsleves from the tag that dubstep's grown into but the attitude of so many people who feel afraid to admit to liking any form of dubstep is just pathetic. it's classic next new thing syndrome

this. if another forum appeared that could truly rival this one not only in terms of content (possibly more in the past rather than the present but i still find some gold looking through old posts), but more importantly in the userbase and sheer knowledge of the posters then i'd be interested, but there's been loads of semi related forums that have pretty much failed - uk funky forum, breakstep forum, future garage forum - and there's a reason for that. it's not as easy as you'd think to get a forum up to a good standard and keep it there, especially when there's an already established rival. it's a shame that so many of the old posters have been driven away but that's just the way with forums
boxxy wrote:It's just a bit different now is all...
no-one's going to deny that and i'm sure i've whinged about the forum as much, if not more, than anyone else but at least this section is hanging on to something good

Yeah, this forum isnt broken, no need to fix it.
Its obvious that if you lose the 'House' affinity its just gonna turn multi-genre, and basically end up as the main forum, which primarily is dubstep. ive seen a few forums crumble over the last 10 years largely down to unecessary change.
I vote to leave it as it is, its all House.

is it all house? i don't really care about the name, tbh, but a quick scan of the threads here seem to say "it's more than house"
it's whatever

You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless you're deep into the vibe of house.
House is an uncontrollable desire to jack your body.

still not sure why there's a desire to change the name! Yes...there is some dubstep that gets posted here that probably should get posted in the dubstep forum.
if it's changed to room 2 then do we change hip hop and other music forum names too? Just as ambiguous...then everything gets really confusing. Where do I post about techno?

this just inspired some reflections
i'm sad about the direction i feel dubstep has taken. i still support by buying dubstep records i like week in week out even if they dont get played out that often. after discovering dubstep in 2005 - 3 or 4 years later I found myself a bit lost with cruder riff based sludgey bangers on the one hand (more and more resembling heavy rock) and more thoughtful uber-deep bits on the other - both of which i like when done well in my judgement but becoming a bit too predictable at times.
tuffer ukfunky and soulful house sounded fresh and invigorating by contrast and as an antidote - it was music to escape too whilst dubstep got 'big' and swam round in a circle waiting for people to catch up en mass, which you cant blame it for but did get a bit boring for some longer-term fans.
the garage influence reappearing was refreshing too so a drift towards these new hybrid areas felt natural. also having been into house and techno in my pre-dubstep days, I can bring out older things and mix with the new.
straight-up bandwagon jumpers will expose themselves. i'll keep an ear on dubstep and continue to buy the bits that turn me on, but hope this explains why i found my way to here, rather than it just being the attraction of something new.
here's something i would mix with more obviously dubstep bits - anyone else likin this?
