there isn't any great story, it's just that there's differing views on how things should be done in our micro-scene. it's been like this for quite some time and i'm sure everyone would agree it isn't as important as the actual music.

Because that's all he supports and writes about, excluding a helluva alot of other artists...fairplay to him...he's allowed to rep what he likes...but my view to him and his compadres has always been, repp every element, until the scene is big enuff to hold its own...its so small, that important journo's like him need to be on the case with everyone. I'd even go so far as to say, journo's have been very responsible for factionalising the scene!
I didnt see any factionalising last year 2004 - ok so people we're going into their own styles...but we were all in it together, all the artists/dj's/etc - mainly because we were all rinse crew!! we felt that at the meetings...when everyone running the game now...was there!

ive purposely always promoted the label/sound to the breaks community - thats been my bridge...in the way i dj, the tunes i play, and the stuff we sign...others do dubstep and grime...i.e kode9 or ntype...
my reason was only to get sales and exposure up..which it has.

...I always tended towards the steppy side of breaks through garage anyway so i don't know that an association with grime is going to do dubstep any favours which is why it went underground after 2step imploded and mutated

not really feeling the nasal twang of grimey vocals or the ragga chat really. i much prefer film samples and random noise instrumentals just like how i like my breakz...

Maybe then this is a discussion about artists doing what they do irrelevant of the scene, and scenesters trying to please the scene which developed initially around certain artists, by recombining already established successful elements. All electronic genres have this issue, I suppose. On the one hand you have innovators, and on the other followers. The grim truth is that scenes need followers and copyists for their health. But at the same time, you can't expect artists to stick around in a scene full of copyists. I remember when Photek got pissed off with d&b and did something else. Also 4 Hero etc. etc.

I think you are unfair on Blackdown to say that all he covers is Hatcha and Youngsta. I've read loads he has written about Grime as well.

OK sid that was post was unprofessional and completely and utterly over the line. i resent having to justify my position.

i rep the music i'm enthusiastic about, i'm not paid for this and i'm not a public service organisation - i dont have any obligation to be impartial or objective. i only have an obligation to be true to myself. which i am.

i think it's completely unfair to blame me for factionalising the scene.
i think it's completely hypocritical to critize me of only promoting certain artist in the scene when every single post by you is blatant self promotion for hotflush artists aimed at your own financial gain. that's factionalising if i ever heard it.

i've always taken the view with the kind of FWD flavours i dont like that there's two approaches. ignore them, or agressively critisize them. trying to stay positive, i've always favoured the former. perhaps you'd prefer the latter?

do you know how much money it takes to put a record out? it aint cheap we have alot of money invested in the label, as like alot of the other labels out there...we have a duty to ourselves as a business to max sales..to justify why we even do this...its nonsensical running a business at a loss right?
also artists deserve to get promoted..if we just signed a beat...and let it sleep...then they wouldn't be really impressed with us..and wouldnt give us the music in the first place...im obliged to do this!

I think we'd all be quite interested to hear some aggressive criticism of the Forward styles your less enamoured with, Martin. I don't remember Sid or anyone else criticising any actual music, do you? Although there's been some heavy implicit critcism of certain (very popular) producers coming from your (and others') direction for a while now.
