1. people underestimate the amout of weight in grime.
2. shnieder, fuckit, i LOVE those "keyboard" beats in US rap. why do most of you seem to have a total embargo on all things cheap. Cheap is good sometimes. Its about context and effect. Mixdowns alone are pretty boring unless youre into the engeneering side of it. I'm into the partying side of it
3. i think this is another one of those threads that's going round in circles. biggup Plastic

I'm more into grime but dubstep has a better crowd and attitude. I like to hear both in the same set ideally. Both scenes germinated around the same time but dubstep hasn't really shown itself properly, like grime, until recently and it seems like there is potential for it to go further. It depends what happens in grime next.

ya know what. I dont think grimes target audience is you *DeCiBella~~
thats fine, but stop giving us your opinion and concluding like u have a point to argue. saying that Grime's never been taken anywhere deeper is total shit..
u have Plasticman making some deep twisted tunes like Cha and Japan, not the mention the rest inbetween.
You have Wonder with his complete abstract take on things.
You have Disturbed Blade who can make the most psychotic, crazy melodies and riffs..
http://www.myspace.com/disturbedblade
Listen to "In The Kitchen" on Raptors myspace, telling u what he thinks of his music.
http://www.myspace.com/raptorsworld.. No soul? no heart? quiet on that tip plz.
then u have man like Sticky with his polished beats and slick melodies.
There's so many exellent producers.
DaVinChi, Dexplicit, Wiley, Danny Weed, Low Deep, JAMMER, Jon E Cash, Macabre Unit, Lewi White, Alias, DPM, SHOTZ, MRK1, Black OPs..
AND MORE
EACH with their own take on it, EACH moving it into a deeper place.
Its bait that Grimes versatility and depth reflect Dubsteps in so many ways. whilst remaining seperate entities they move on da same path, pushin da boundries as they go.
certain people better get to know or just give up now. your opinions dont interest me. we deal in fact not fiction here, and Ive laid down the staight up facts.

who knows about Ruff Sqwad's 'R-U-Double F'?
makes my ears hurt it's so so squealy, but it's an INCREDIBLE tune because of it.
Plastic, what about 'No Bass'? I wouldn't want a whole genre of that stuff, but as a one-off tune I thought that was some skippy shit.
i always end up saying this on these threads, but here we go again: 'large up the nine'

Plasticman wrote:So if you heard the shittest most boring dubstep tune ever, but the producer had used an £8000 reverb machine to add reverb to the snares - you are saying you wold like it more?
Your point on the bass I can relate to though - I refuse to play productions which lack bass, with the exception of Wiley's "North London" and "16 Bar" purely down to the rudeness of the two beats!!!
hahah
no, theres a lot of brilliantly, expertly produced dubstep beats that despite marvelling at the technical excellence, i just cant get into them. i dont mind 'poor' production values (by that i mean sheer sonics) as long as the ideas and 'playing' on those tracks is good, but if the actual musical content of the beat sounds like someone who just got their keyboard for christmas that year, then i dont really wanna hear it.
i dont think you can generalise all grime as being musically shoddy though - guys like plastician, footsie (just check scars 2 - genius!), wizzbit/genius (grand theft auto etc), and the guys i mentioned before arent 'amateur' sounding. even rapid who favours the cheap presets quite often makes tracks like underground that sound proper and have a lot of intricate programming happening.

I don't really know enough about grime to comment on it - wish more people would do the same.
And cheap isn't bad as Alex said - loads of dancehall has the shitest sounds, but amazing riddims. I'd rather hear that than some expertly produced yet musically tedious drivel.
This sort of bullshits been going on since the Beatles and the Stones - you can like both you know. Plenty of cliched grime and plenty of cliched dubstep about so it's not like anyone can act that superior in the music stakes.

If you choose to create a divide between genres [not just talking dubstep or grime] and ignore some in preference of others your just shooting yrself in the foot when it comes to finding good tunes......

@ ppl talkin about music with Soul, Heart and Energy.
there is no music that contains those elements.

i'll give you 5 guesses as to where that stuff actually is.

thats bollocks. people give their own energy and soul to their artform... its a piece of them. thats how we know who's is who's. dont mean to sound pretentious... but u can tell when something has no soul put into it.

Some grime is badly produced - but I'm no-one to name names. But some dubstep is also badly made - peeps go on about sub-bass but there tunes that have none. At least grime doesn't piss about under some pretensions to sth it ain't.
Always thought there were some absolutely wicked grime productions - bit tired of factionalism. Good music is good music.
Bring on the breaksteppas!!

It comes down to how each person feels it. To say that grime has no feeling or emotion is pure poo. The majority of it has a different vibe, but like Fully said, some of the beats are so dark and can probably be classed as dubstep.
Ruff Sqwad make some seriously dirty beats as well. Anyone that thinks grime has no emotion should listen to Anna, Down and the one that is burnt into my head at the moment is Clio by Rapid.
