thats a fair point of view, but remember that people "consume" music differently. someone that is plugged into a scene 150% and knows everything about it, is 360 degrees away from other people that don't. a lot of people need help in guiding them to the music they like. how do you think they do that in dubstep, jungle, techno, etc? do you think that your favorite mixes in your ipod, got there by pigeon message?

people are more than welcome to hate these sites all they want, but understand that, your needs in music, do not speak for everyone elses needs. for those that consider themselves experts in this genre, there's somebody logging into this site, that just heard the music for the first time this week.

forum people are probably 40% of the punters that go to see DJ X on a friday night in town X. how do you think they found out about the gig? how do you think they downloaded that new mix to support the tour? DSF, facebook, twitter, etc.

i heard that interview in total, and in the context he is saying it, i took it that flylo was saying that dubstepforum has BECOME stupid, truth to that, so many members now, lots of stupid posts and flamers now, lots of stupid topics, still plenty of gems and good peoples too, it now just takes alot alot alot more work and time to shift through the shit to find the goods, worth it tho!

wher exactly does that # come from? are you polling people at gigs? how did the majority find out about the show then? just luck? ive long felt that dsf's importance is overstated. its not as if dubstep wouldnt exsist w/o it. dsf makes it easier for people to get info but if it werent here they could get that info elsewhere. there plenty of places to advertise gigs, download mixes etc. DSF could dissapear tomorrow and dubstep would go on just fine. Im not badmouthing what goes on here, but really its not changing the world, its just a matter of convinience.

I found at about dmz amsterdam by looking at flyers at my local record shop. Old school

isnt there a famous quote that goes something like " talking about music is like dancing about architecture".

who said dubstep wouldn't exist without it? No one! DSF didn't invent or claim some title to something. This site organically grew, just as dubstep grew. When the Rinse and Dubplate forums shut down, people had no global connection point, so this forum was created purely out of the love of the music and necessity. Of course its changed over the years, but its importance, or lack thereof according to you, is far too broad for one sweeping opinion on the site. its many things to many people. both bad and good, as it should be.

As someone whose interest in ds is relatively recent I'd say that approximately 2/3 of my music purchases over the last 8 months have been influenced by this forum and I spend about roughly €100 per month. While that's a pretty small amount in the wider scheme of things I'd be guessing I'm not alone. In amongst that there's some stuff that I would have found eventually but there's very definitely a ton of stuff that I wouldn't. Releases from Forensics et al on methodology cogidubnus' pan galactic memory bank and Gravious junction city ep all of which are extremely good are releases I doubt very much I would have heard about had it not been for this forum. So this forum has a very real contribution to make and provides a platform for new and established producers to get there stuff out there.

What it also does is create interest in releases as they happen, people want to be able to discuss the big releases as they come out and that encourages people not to sit on stuff when they are able to get them on release and building the anticipation for the next Kryptic Minds or Kromestar albums is certainly going to contribute to increasing the revenue they generate on release.

The analogy of talking about music is like dancing to architecture seems pretty flawed I can talk about music on a forum while listening to it I could hardly draw building designs while dancing, talking about music and listening to it are hardly exclusive activities. There's also a ton of posts highlighting the contributions producers have made which helps people like me who are relatively new who want to find the stuff that was released 5 years ago.

I like Fly Lo I thought cosmogramma was an excellent album though I know many disagree though I thought pattern and grid world was disappointing, ironically it was this thread that led me to getting contact love want have so even this thread has impacted on one of the protagonists sales.

That said I think the forum has it's flaws but there generally flaws we the posters are responsible for. Sometimes it feels like posters want others to like the same stuff they do while paradoxically wanting the same tunes to remain underground. The whole brostep thing is done to death though it's easy enough to avoid the same discussions given people are usually kind enough to put the word brostep in the title and the mods are usually good enough in closing the troll heavy threads.

The forum definitely has a role to play but it's a forum, in the general sense, that people are entitled to express their opinion about
