Stevie Wonder wrote:I decided today that until the 'Stand Your Ground' law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world. The truth is that....for those of you who’ve lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world....we can’t bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.
Sceptical that this will really achieve much, but you can't knock him for trying to make a point.

Many states have some form of Stand Your Ground law. Alabama,[12] Alaska,[13] Arizona,[14] California,[15][16] Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa,[17] Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,[14] Maine, Massachusetts,[18] Michigan,[14] Mississippi, Missouri, Montana,[14] New Hampshire,[14] North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma,[14] Pennsylvania ,[19], Rhode Island,[20] South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee,[14] Texas,[21] Utah,[22] West Virginia,[14], Wisconsin[23] and Wyoming have adopted Castle Doctrine statutes, and other states (Iowa,[24] Virginia,[25] and Washington) have considered "Stand Your Ground" laws of their own.[26][27][28]
That's a lot of states he's not gonna play at.

only found out that zimmerman walked free today.

apparently its completely legal to shoot unarmed children if you follow them for long enough to "intimidate" yourself???? very dark times man :[.

also apparently zimmerman he has a history of violence towards women and police people too. and he got his gun back too?! he'll definitely murder someone else or some shit

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ ... story.html

also be interesting to see how this case pans out, considering she acted under the same law zimmerman did. except she's a black woman. hmmm.
ehbrums1 wrote:its the right call imo, not enough for a conviction. doesnt mean the dude isnt a scumbag tho
are u serious????????
the defense lawyers clearly spent a lot of time manipulating things n making shit up to make it look like zimmerman was 'defending' himself. which tbh obvious ly wasnt the case at all. this was cold blooded murder and the fella just got away with it. if you dont think thats enough for a convicition id be seriously worried

tbf sounds like a lot of people in here had their mind made up well before any details emerged.

Should stress, that's on both sides.

Well, quite. It seems most of the talk (Trayvon's character, poorly worded friend testimonies, who threw the first punch, whether Zimmerman could get his ass handed to him by a minor) since the event has distanced America from the clear and obvious moral sense of the fresh case - a man created a situation that ended a child's life through his own free will. He ignored everyone's advice not to do it yet he still did because these "punks" and "assholes always get away" - and created a conversation around the only actual "crime" that the legal system currently knows how to deal with, the final moment of killing- a man defends himself with his legally held weapon in a fight where he thought his life was in danger. Clearly, he's going to get off on reasonable doubt since he's the only surviving witness.

The failure of society is not to look at the result of their legal system and determine that anything other than something must change. Either it's gun laws, freedom to racially profile, more trained police instead of nosey neighbours with Colt 45s, whatever suits your democracy... but if you plug this entire sequence of events into you nation's legal program and it comes out with "Well, if you're a black teenager and you want to buy sweets in the rain, you'd better understand that there is a small chance you could be killed and nobody would be to blame, it's just the way things go." something...must...change.

I move for the introduction of a popular "Dick vote" - nearly everyone can agree this never would have happened if, malevolently or not, Zimmerman wasn't a being a complete dick with his spare time. That's got to start counting for something in this world.

The Dick Vote is awkward though since the media's perpetuation of social fear makes people want to be vigilantes even though there's no need. For example, my dad calls the police to report young teenagers standing around in the park next to the house. They've broken no laws and my dad's being a complete dick but because of bullshit put out by the daily mail etc he thinks they're all dealing drugs and if the police don't do anything then they're lazy, under-staffed etc
