You're either being purposely obtuse, or very bloody naive.
Sorry, it's past my bed time. I've probably worded it badly. I spoke to a friend about it a few days ago and she said that as she wouldn't feel welcomed there, like they've only been allowed there begrudgingly. I'm actually struggling to articulate myself and put down what I mean here but I didn't want come across that way

marriage isn't just a religious ceremony

"Marriage (also called matrimony or wedlock) is a social union or legal contract between people called spouses that establishes rights and obligations between the spouses, between the spouses and their children, and between the spouses and their in-laws... People marry for many reasons, including: legal, social, libidinal, emotional, financial, spiritual, and religious. Marriages can be performed in a secular civil ceremony or in a religious setting. The act of marriage usually creates normative or legal obligations between the individuals involved."

Was he not commenting about an earlier comment about forcing churches to perform gay marriage (was that in this thread?)?

Yeah I get that, it probably reflects more on my views of marriage. The whole pomp and expense of it all, and at the end of the day it's all just a (admittedly very big) romantic gesture with a bit of paper. To be honest I really don't know where I'm going with this and can't decide where I sit in my own mind.

Let people do their own thing I suppose.

The financial & social benefits of having a legally recognized marriage are what people are after.

And that's not a bad thing before anyone decides to hop along down my throat.

Look up "benefits of allowing gay marriage" or something for a full list of (typically financial) benefits of Legal marriage for a broader idea. It's things like taxes, parental leave, insurance etc...

Does she know any gay parents? Any children of gay parents?

Lye Form, next time you see her, or if you would rather just make a timeline post, tell her that Zerbaman hates her.

'Friend' of my cousin commenting on his status. i made the stupid mistake of engaging her (after an anti-abortion rant) asking if it was too late to have her aborted and now its like 50 comments later of me mocking her and her replying with moronic things.

Most kids these days are raised by the internet anyway.
My guardians don't do shit with regard to emotional development for their kids.

Marie Owen Same sex marriage is a total disaster; lets hope it doesnt get past the house of Lords. It would only lead to further degradation of society. The family unit should be protected at all costs to prevent further degradation of a society already badly affected by divorce, abortion and suffering the consequences of so many other attacks on the family, which is the cornerstone of society.

Marie Owen i dont hate gays. i love them; i have lots of gay friends. i just believe in the institution of trad marriage between a man and a woman and the importance of protecting this. Also, sin is sin whether it is sex outside marriage or sodomy. Celibate gay people can live very happy and fulfilling lives as do celibate heterosexuals.

Benni Mc that doesn't make any fucking sense Marie, you have "gay friends" but don't think they should have the right to be married or raise children because they don't fit your delusional idea of what is traditional and true or 'christian' sort it out Marie, next level hypocrisy.

Marie Owen Marriage between a man and a woman is the Civil partnerships already provide all the legal benefits of marriage so there's no need to redefine marriage. It's not discriminatory to support traditional marriage. Same-sex couples may choose to have a civil partnership but no one has the right to redefine marriage for others. Equality isn’t uniformity – equality already exists,so there’s no need for this.

Marie Owen Seven in ten people want to keep marriage as it is. Other polling which purports to show public support for gay marriage fails to tell respondents that equal rights are already available through civil partnerships. When people are told this crucial fact, most people say keep marriage as it is.

George William Callaghan I agree that the traditional nuclear family is a pretty good model in many cases. However, there are traditional families that are deeply unhappy. I have not managed to create a traditional family myself. I do not think we can make people go back to the 1930s vision of the ideal family by force or persuasion.
