This is all 'base' music to vibe you up. Both dubstep and grime generally cater to the base instincts, and thats how I likes it.

difference is, grime is there to cater to base instincts of mc's, get em hyped up 4 merkery.
as well as not overpowering them sonically.

i'd say the same about terror danjah, tubby, geeneus, big e-d and plasticman, and probably a few others im forgetting

geeneus is actually an excellent example of the ridiculousness of this thread...witness congo from tempa allstars 2, a beautiful piece of refined dubstep with all the neat boxes ticked. so, one has to wonder, how come he doesnt do that all the time? is it because he's lazy? i dont think it is

it seems this topic of grime vs dubstep crops up a lot

can see why tho

i think they both borrow sounds and feels from each other and its a logical progression of music (borrowing bits and stlyes)

neither one is better than the other

music is a personal thing and what one person likes might no tickle the fancy of the nextman

yeah, look at the stuff Tubby & Footsie are doing... taking the best of both and when they put it together you've got something even better. A bit like one of those sliced loaves where you can have brown or white toast depending on how you feel innit, lol Newham Generals - the Hovis of dubstep & grime haha

Innit, last thing a genre needs is a bunch of chin-strokers considering themselves mentally superior because they listen to tunes with wanky rhythms and perfectly engineered hi hats.

amen. if not more.

i'm vaguely surprised a rinse dj is spouting this crap, but that would explain why some dubstep shows on rinse are so goddamn boring if that's the attitude. i'd rather listen to the ads than some of that shit. at least the douglas mullins thing has a bit of emotional oomph.

as i think we've established before, i'm quite happy for what blackdown called
"so-so, half baked, unmixed, copycat cloned, ooh-look-I’m-so-fucking-dark-and-hard-and-angry-me-
-what’s-that-mum?-yes-I-know-its-past-my-bedtime halfstep “dubs.”"
to separate themselves as far away as they possibly can from me.

your chest blackdown on that description, brilliant stuff.

I've started listening to more grime lately, as although production wise it's maybe not so hot, it's often far more musically interesting and a lot more open in its influences (heads up to Alex bk-bk for recommendations). The immediacy of the sound can give it more vibrancy than something that's been tweaked and overproduced for weeks on end.

If it's just down to whether it's better produced or not, that would mean that Genesis would be "better" than the Stooges - can't see anyone fighting that corner. There's good and shit in both - if we reduce it all down to this argument, we'll just end up with dubstep being reduced to the state of the majority of drum and bass, where the same tired cliches are just refined over and over again with no noticeable innovations in the composition. It won't be better though.

Neither's better or worse just different, this is a fairly pointless argument.

I can't be bothered to go into detail as the thread's starter point does not deserve it.

This is a stupid argument

I could spend 18 hours making an intense grime track...

I could then go and make a dubstep track, taking the same time...

One is not better produced than the other - its down to personal opinion. the two sounds are unique in their own right yet not too different from eachother at the same time.

Just let them be - music is music. it's not a science - the science is sound.

Grime is not an MC. Grime does not spit about guns. moretime thats what MCs do. Maybe the thing letting MCs down is the guntalk, & the thing letting Grime down is people thinking it's all about MCs.
People can listen to either side of it.

Grime is as deep and multicomplexed as dubstep, and I believe they should move as a united formation for UK urban music.
