Very surprised at how many people are happy with their Ipod's here!

Have you tried to plug it into your monitors (if you have decent ones) to hear the difference?

Nope. But i might be down to the EQ qualities on both mp3 players? Are they both set to flat?

We have 3 ipods (one classic, one touch and one nano) in rotation in our house to play music from. I havnt noticed any difference in quality, except mine is unbelievably loud (Chinese import disregards the volume UK rules) so i have to turn it down by half to meet the full loudness of the other ipods.

AS far as i know, apple hardware is quite quality, for instance the apple stock soundcard that comes with macs are regarded as being actually quite good, clear and detailed. Surely they wouldn't skimp on their most popular product!??
Its used in 90% of portable music after all....

I have gone thru the so called EQ settings on the latest Iphone and it is a total joke:) they have no true flat settings and everything has been modified to try and make it sound better.

I am not the only person who I have heard complaining about how poor the quality is on Apples Ipod/Iphones. I have a few audiophiles here at work who spend obscene amounts of money on hi-fi gear who also agree.

Are you playing ur music thru quality speakers at your house?

Check out the Sandisk Sansa, they have a few models and they are all pretty good and inexpensive. I don't think they have 80GB ones like Ipods, but if you're like me and don't want anything that big anyway they are great. The one I use ("Clip") most for ultra portability is only about 2 inches big, comes with FM radio, recording abilities, and other little bonuses, they are 1-4GB perfect for throwing mixes on and taking it anywhere.. the newer ones accept flash memory, so storage is unlimited. Then they have bigger ones with more internal storage space that play video etc.

I also have a Samsung T10 which is nice and small, plays videos etc. Kind of like a skinny ipod. That one usually stays plugged into the car stereo.

Hmm they must support wavs because it records radio/voice to wav files which play back on the device.. you can choose between a couple of different qualities as well. Supports FLAC and Ogg as well as a bonus, maybe others but that's all i've tried.

I can't quite grasp your concept Mr Serox. You listen to music on an iPod, not make it... (Unless you're using apps ) So why would transparent sound or a flat frequency response on an MP3 player actually matter? They're TRYING to enhance the sound... Just as monitor manufactures TRY not to lol.

Well I obviously listen to music I have made on it and its really fucking with my mix becuase it is not a flat sound. It does not have an EQ tool inside but lets you choose different settings like 'rock' and 'pop' which are pointless.

(I do use some apps too but just for fun:p)

I've got an 80gb Ipod Classic and it worked for the last two years for me. Just don't use the standard Apple earphones since they are crock of shit. Go and buy some Sony or Sennheiser headphones.

I use a 9 quid 500mb thumb stick MP3 player and the quality on it is actually amazing! Its almost as clear as my emu .

if you want decent sound don't buy an iPod, they weren't build with quality in mind.

If you're particularly interested in top sound, look at Sony and Cowon. I'm buying a Cowon next cos they're sexy as fuck and sound bloody great. I'm sure there are other brands out there that will sound better still - get on some hi-fi forums and read up...

Apple are not as good at building things as some of you may think. They have one of the best marketing teams in the world and that is the only reason they are popular, not because of quality. They are not the best at making anything at all. They use to be ahead of the game with computers but now days PC's are more powerful and cheaper than Apple.

Their computers/ipod's etc are look good first toys. I will admit, they make some very pretty and smart looking stuff!

My imac is a beast 3.06 core 2 duo with 8 gig ram. The LED widescreen 1080p screen looks stunning behind its glass front. Its all in one aluminium "case" is very strong and sturdy, no gimmicks here, just raw power and beauty.
Admittedly im a bit of a mac fan, i have used them almost exclusively since the first G3 imac (blue) (230hz, 125 meg ram) lol

I've had my iMac just over a year and haven't had ONE issue with it, EVERY PC I've owned I've had an issue before a year. Frankly, there is plenty of proof to show Apples stability and reliability over PC's and anybody who thinks they make their products just for show have got it wrong. They make their hardware specifically to work with one another which means there's NEVER any compatibility issues which occur in the general percent of PC's. MAcs CAN'T get viruses, another solid reason to get one alone... I could rabbit on all day about why macs ARE better than PC's... But my guess is that you can't afford one anyway, otherwise you would have got one by now

There are PC's that are as powerful now days and halve the price

I work with Apples and I have a choice when I choose what I build. It is pointless getting into a Apple Vs PC argument

You think you know best and I will just agree to disagree with you.

I used to have an iRiver h340. Used to swear by it, until it got stolen. Great homebrew community still going for it on the iRiver forums.
