Aw poor Reason.
Such a good starter program! You can get ideas down fast. Shit EQs, but great as a creative tool.
Cubase or Ableton for PC, obviously.
Then grab Reason 4 and use Thor or Malstrom on top of using a proper DAW (with a proper mixer, that, um SHOWS DBs) Can't go wrong with combinators, or funky CV routing for interesting creative effects tho.

You can work fast in anything. I used to think I was pretty fast with Reason until I got decent with Ableton. I have gone back to Reason a couple times and had to give up because it slowed everything down for me. Especially when you try to use a sample and if you have to reach for other programs before you can even use it in Reason... Recycle, Soundforge etc.

Reason is great, I still use it completely.
Why don't you just rewire reason, that way you can keep the same rate of production (don't have to really learn much) and you can do all your mixdowns by having all the instruments in reason as separate tracks in whatever DAW you choose.
BONUS! this will make you learn a new DAW as well (at a nice pace) and you won't have a hiccup time of crap tunes

I do most of my shit in Logic but still find myself bouncing reeces, going back to reason and funking them up in there. Automation seems a lot easier in Reason for me...

suppose this is true, but preference is definitely important, and style of the program, I couldnt figure out a mix for the life of me in reason (and still cant do a mix in general to be honest) but at least with logic I feel like if i actually took the time to do a mixdown of a tune and stopped being a lazy tnuc I could actually do it pretty well or at least I would feel like id know exactly where to start, with reason I would be totally lost.
just saying its all about what is right for you, its not exactly that reason sucks, its just that some people (like me) find it hard to use mix wise, and find it a lot easier on other daws.
.. and as far as the analyzer thing, I love them, overall it its about what my ear is hearing, but they do help no doubt, at least for me they do.

Ableton for sure. Anyone who says otherwise has probably only used it upto version 6. Live 7 and 8 are both powerhouse DAW's, the sound engine is fantastic and it the sequencer is like working with putty
If I could get Ableton pregnant, I would. haha!

I switched from Reason to Cubase about half a year ago and STILL haven't found a tape distortion /saturation plugin that comes anywhere near Reason's...anybody know a good one?
Also the advanced reverb unit is probably the best reverb I've ever used.

I like the "ears > analyzer" crowd. Sure, if you've got educated ears (

) then you better mix by ear but I haven't got so if I want to see where stuff is clashing or maybe where there's a thin band in the spectrum, I do two clicks and know where it's at. Maybe in 10 years I can tell by experience, but until then I rely on my tools thank you.

incorrect - the sound engine in Ableton is lacking in so many ways
Powerhouse DAWs - no
Passable DAWs - yes
but remember... a Mastering Engineer can do amazing things

I've been using reason for about 3 years and slowly im getting pissed off by the eq's......to get good mix downs i have to have like 10 mclass eq's stacked as there's only 2 thingys (bands? q?)
I really love scream 4 n ye the tape saturation is banging. i usually have like 2 screams on a bassline with the last one on tape....it smooths out ugly distortions.
also subtractor is dut.
prob gona move over to logic when i get a mac tho....maybe in about a year.

you're clearly doing it wrong if you need 10 eq's. Get the sounds right from the start and only use eq for small corrections

Wasnt meant that way, all i was saying thats its not the eqs fault that you need 10 of them

no its the same as all the others. that's the point of DIGITAL workstations, at heart they are all adding machines. if you take the same wav render it out of logic, ableton, cubase and then invert phase and play against each other they will cancel each other out.

True, this is the case for most DAWs but Reason is the only one i've seen real limitation insofar that i have to trigger wav samples on midi notes (fair enough, unless i buy Record) and the lack of VSTi support. I definitley don't think Reason is shit though, i still like it.
What i'd personally recommend is either FL or Cubase (my personal bias steering towards FL atm) but, as i say, i'm biased to recommending whatever i feel best suited to using atm...You could be more suited to Ableton. You shouldn't completely give up on Reason though, although i hated the eq in it aswell.
