Dubstep is mine! I won't look cool as fuck dropping Mala and Shackleton into casual conversation if everyone knows who they are

Jokes aside, I prefer that the compilation is roughly representative of more than one aspect of the sound, and takes time to include the not so mainstream tunes aswell as the radio fodder. At least that way there are no misconceptions as to what dubstep is, but ultimately I question the motive behind the compilation itself: is it really necessary? What does it mean for the development of the sound itself? Nothing, I suspect - just that it's got to the point where someone knows they can turn a nice profit out of a branded comp CD in a big market.

I know I like discovering music without Ministry of Sound to point it out to me, it was part of the whole experience. Discovering Burial's "In McDonalds" through mates who I shared the era of my life with when the idea of being in McDonalds on a rotter of a comedown at 8am was something new and very real to us. It added another dimension to the experience, the fact that the music was transmitted from Burial, to my mates, to me - without the need of a bloke in a suit who didn't understand or care about any of our experiences playing middle man. It was a more intimate system of relations, which was advantageous in a lot of ways.

Each to their own I guess.

hows that? when im sayin that certain musics shud be kept underground, and out of the media's attention, inorder to keep it pure. i think if you went away and thought about it long enough and hard enough, youd realise that wat im sayin is fueled by a desire to keep the music i love alive and good, as opposed to to destroyin it.

I got into dubstep, coincidentally through Burial via iTunes single of the week. At the time i was listening to such MOS discs and other general 'commercial' music. Going back to your original post, does this make me a prick?

i dont know you mate.all i know is that artists like burial for example dont come around very often, and i dont want a situation where every other trendys spewing his or any other 'artists' name. this is gona sound so unoriginal but i dont want certain musics to go 'mainstream" as it were, and in my eyes at least a ministry of sound compilation is the first step.

So by your logic If an artist makes a tune and its heard by few people its pure but once the SAME EXACT TUNE gets popular its suddenly destroyed? Its the same fucking tune ffs. If producers didn't want their music to be heard they would not release it, give it to other DJs or even show it to anyone. Most people who make music do it so other people can hear their creation and get something from it.

lol this thread is too joke. i dont think there is one producer out there who doesnt want their work exposed on a mass scale; i dont think there is ANYONE out there whos buss by accident.. too many ppl out here with romantic notions that someone like burial is some 'troubled soul who only cared about creating master pieces'.. im pretty sure he grinded just as hard as anyone to get his music out there, only difference is his hes alot more talented then alot of other producers hence why hes goten all the exposure he has

would have preferred if they'd gone on an apartheid flex and put the commercial shit on cd1 and the deep tunes on cd2 instead of mixing between the two, thats the whole benefit of having a double cd pack FFS. having said that some of the opinions expressed in this thread r unconstructive.

but it does pain me to see posters on the tube with names like digital mystikz, breakage, coki (separate lol) etc next to jakwob, doorly, mt eden etc but what can u do........

I think i understand the point the original poster is trying to make but feel he has got the wrong idea. Good music being shown to a large audience isn't the issue. The issue is poorly produced music being shown to the 'mainstream' and them then accepting this as the only style/sound/type etc of dubstep there is.

i agree with the second part, but dont you think is a bit of a waste for good music to be shown to a large audience if most of that audience is not goin to appreciate it?

cause yeah, hearing something and not liking it is so much worse than having music you might like hidden from you

It is yes and in regards to this release it is up to the listener to decide what strand, if any, of dubstep most appeals to them. Idea of the compilation i guess. But as a general argument i feel my point is valid.
