the thing is re-edits have been part of the DJ/Sound-system culture since the very start. The whole dubplate thing arose out of the need for exclusive re edits for DJs.....

I thought calling these L-Vis edits a whole new genre was going a little too far tho.. dubble step >> cringe
making a couple of beats and branding it a new genre is on some ting
tunes were great tho

I dunno if you got the wrong end of the stick...I wasn't saying it was a new genre...just that the edits were wicked.
I especially think it helps me with the Where's my Money, as...when a DJ drops the track to please the crowd, it makes it a little different to dropping the overplayed original.
In my opinion anyway...

no not on the wrong end.. it wasn't you that I was referring to who said that.. those tunes were up on the mad decent blog being hyped as a new genre thing.. kinda like how that whole 'kerplunk' sound thing was hyped the same way.. I just don't see how a single producer can be given credit like that, to me "genre" as a definition seems more like a post hoc designation given to a larger movement or group of artists' work
does a piece of music stand up on its own feet less if it doesn't have a nice label?
maybe I'm wrong tho, or shouldn't be taking it as seriously as this post would imply I am (I'm not, really) and this is a whole different discussion as far as the original topic is concerned.
