last time I went to fwd>> was when Benny Ill and El-B were spinning, and I thought their sets were refreshingly "steppy". I'm well up for hearing more of that stuff. Actually, Appleblim v Headhunter & Scientist gave me something to step to as well. Not sure if it's true that the dubstep scene's preoccupied with basslines, I came from listening mainly to hip hop so I'm crazy about switching up the beats, and I've been hearing some stuff at fwd>> that keeps me entertained.

mudstep, bitchstep, funkstep, kitschstep... pull-ma-fuckin-hair-out-step

in addition to my incredulity at that horrible labelling session dubplodocus had: i love Lost 1z, it subtly (very cheekily) uses a really cool vocal hook from that Lauryn Hill tune, brings back some memories

there's some seriously good breaks-step producers out there.

long may they continue making the beats...toasty, search and destroy, protocol x...

stay true...

i've championed the sound from day1 way back in 1998 when deekline first gave me dont smoke...

Nice one. Thanks to everyone for their replies and suggestions. I've got a lot of research and purchasing to do now! One last thing though, any suggestions on more mixes of this sort of "breakstep" sound? Thanks.

Well if you're into the breakstep side of things, you might like some of my mixes. The mix that I have linked in my sig gets into steppier stuff past half way. Additionally if you're interested I've got archives of breaks mixed with breakstep. :)

/blatant self promotion :P

If you didnt check Distance's 1 on 1 (HF008) that track is not only devestating but very breaky. Hotflush seems to in general put more "electronically" sounding production.. IE Toasty, Elemental, Scuba :D. I like the same stuff so if I want to find shit like that I just keep up on releases by alot of artists mentioned already like Vex'd, Search & Destroy, Hawerchuk, etc. Lotsa breakstep stuff.
As for the path dubstep is taking, keep it coming I dont give a fuck, its all good.
