You see a lot of stories in papers like the daily mail with titles like "british man savagely beaten by pakistani gang in bar brawl"
They always fail to mention that the guy was probably being a complete racist tnuc and deserved it.

Neurotik wrote:Ahh i really hate racism with a strong passion so i do feel quite worked up inside everytime i see it and hear about it. It's still seems to be quite common in the uk too unfortunately. The xenophobia here is just ridiculous where it's not just race but anything foreign whether it be people, religions, cultures, ideas etc. All seem to be met with instant hostility which really gets on my nerves. I deal with alot of comments aimed at foreign people in this country and quite alot of media advocating it while making subtle implications that it's the right thing to do. I was also suprised to see how much racist and xenophobic ideas are spread over facebook too since joining. Although i never fight about it, i just offer explanations to be people as to why it's wrong and if they don't pay attention when i try and calmly explain then i don't see beating it into them working (i usually let the violence speak for itself when i see the people advocating this crap being the first to resort to it).

I really feel passionate about changing the ideas and the attitudes people have towards others so that maybe i can see a future where people are more open minded, educated and accepting of others rather than constantly trying to draw divisions between eachother. The UK has quite a multicultural society but it's a shame to see how very little people actually embrace it and are proud of it. Instead we have a population full of people that make a mockery out of the fact so many people died to try and defend this world against fascism in ww2. Like i've said before in here, the general attitude i see in this country today is that most people wouldn't ever be racist towards african carribeans but won't think twice about directing racial hatred towards any other ethnic group and making anyone else that isn't british feel unwelcome and victimised.
That's the way man, I have trouble responding in a level headed manner when faced with those kind of ideas (or lack thereof) - it has such a polarising effect you could fall out with your best mate

yeah thanks for the feedback.. neurotik is right.. I was just thinking back to last night and when that guy got in the taxi he knew he was the tnuc. Small minded people like this have of got animal like reaction.

As soon as you meet their stupidity the aggressiveness it only reinforces what they believe and only drives them deeper in to their own closed stubborn views. Buts
But thats only my view how to hand stupid people.

Bottle to the head cures all racism.

on a serious note its shit. This forum frustrates me at times because despite being well educated and relatively open minded folks, israeli/jew slaggin pretty widely accepted. I'm not one to get upset about shit. Most people are ignorant to the region as a whole and I'm sure if they visited they'd realize the average person is the same as anywhere else.

On the flip I was kinda shocked how ignorant some european countries were towards arabs. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse than anything I've seen in the states in the past 10 years or so.

Everyone is racist, no matter what you try to deny it... I used to be anti-racist. Life made me racist. I can't help it when people fulfill stereotypes, of all races.

false.

the trick is to not recognize race... recognize individuals, as hard as that may be for you.

i've met awesome people of every race, i've met horrible people of every race.

it's human nature to form in-groups and out-groups, only intelligence can free you from animalistic nature

I hate people, not groups of people.

I'd say to avoid violence as much as possible, or you'd just be fueling the hate more...
Not saying don't defend yourself, but I think it's best to try and show them a good side rather than what they are looking for which is obviously something negative.

IMO etc :Y:

If someone is racism towards you and you react violently, it'll only reinforce any beliefs they had about those people. Racism shows a weakness of the mind, its just people projecting their insecurity onto another race. The best way to deal with it is ignore it.

I would ignore it. If some random person is being a dick to me, I'll ignore it, regardless of it being because of racism or because they're just being assholes in general. Haven't gotten any racist sentiments in a long ass time, though, seeing as I stopped looking Greek.

Lots of people have tendencies to racially stereotype, I do. So will alot of people bought up in mostly racially homogeneous families and social circles. The thing is to recognise the inherent stupidity in doing so and then it doesn't really occur as much, unfortunately that seems to be a bit much too work for some people.

i find it really irritating when people feel offended by everything

in your case, yeah thats horrible you should have beat the shit out of him, cause he actually had no reason to act like that towards you.

i dont approve of people using other peoples races as a form of abuse there is no logic in that and its just ignorant.

things like blatent racism where its obvously not meant i find funny though. i dont understand why people would be offended if they know someone doesnt mean it
like my black people thread, i dont think anyone commenting in that genuinely had hate for black people.

Thats what i see racism as, an actual hate for a certain group of people, because it is too easy to define a group of people and not actually have a genuine dislike for them.
when it is covert racism, that is still someone with a genuine dislike of a group, it may not be as obvious but they still generalise in a bad way, and they actually mean it.

when you say all africans live in the forest and are raised by wolves on the other hand, it is obvously not true and i dont see a reason for people to get offended.

Racism is more than just about hate though. It's about considering race to be a factor in a person's character, abilities or disposition which can lead to unfair judgements and preconceptions but it can apply as much to race as it does age/sex/orientation/musical taste etc. It just so happens that some things you might be judged by are more conspicuous than others.

Main thing that irritates me about it is being drawn into and directly involved with some small-minded person's world. Same goes for any lousy passing comment that leaves you thinking "how the fuck could you devote energy to caring about that" - something as simple as having cocaine bumholes calling me gay for having a hair bobble tied up beard haha

Dunno though, had stick from 'other races' for being a peach skinned cretin but can't say I cared. Funniest was at a dubstep night when some wannabe gangsters came over telling me "white man not allowed to dance with these black girls" so I owned them by saying "LOL that's what hitler tried to tell me"

Life, relationships, social interactions in general all lead to unfair judgments. What people are sick of, I think, is the way that racism is singled out as this.. taboo, where you can't even poke lighthearted fun at it and any mention of race is frowned upon by people who are desperate to get on a moral high ground by making an issue out of anything regarding a difference in race.
