It is kind of worth remembering that when people use given terms in describing modern theoretical physics, they're using a rather strained metaphor to describe some phenomenally technical bit of maths that has a fairly oblique connection to anything in the real world. Similarly, even if universe does turn out to be fractal / holographic, you're not about to start to seeing it on t-shirts at cyberdog...

Prepare for die-hard maths. 14hrs/week style.
And yeah I hate people using random words from quantum mechanics/string theory to "prove" their little theory is right.
I suggest to those people to study QM and ST first.
Don't worry it only takes 5+ years to understand them.

yea i know just studying QM on a hobby level i have a pretty good idea what i'm in for

I like the idea of dreams and the subconscious being the gateway to an afterlife or other "dimensions". Like Descartes' "seat of the soul" theory. Rick Strassman has done some really interesting work in the same vein recently. More modern theories like being able to take advantage of lucid dreaming might have a kind of connection to theories of other dimensions and the afterlife.
I've been practising lucid dreaming for a while but haven't gotten good at it. The lucid dreams I have had are pretty amazing and I can understand how someone can make the connection. The challenge is not waking up once you realize you're dreaming. People practice this for years and once they get good at it they can continue controlling their dreams for hours. The basic theory is perhaps via altered/higher states of consciousness one might learn to achieve "eternal life" and visit so-called other dimensions... meaning what if when your body dies, you can take control of your consciousness and carry on a new life in a dream world.
The fact that many people share the same experiences during altered states of consciousness is a sign that it should be looked at a lot closer. Humanity in its current stage isn't using the mind or brain to the fullest potential which is the main barrier in my opinion. I think it can be an extremely powerful thing and deserves to be studied and taken a lot more seriously than it usually is.
Most people are content with every day mundane life and don't look past 9-5 and paying bills. I think that's one of the main things holding humanity back from expanding the consciousness. In my opinion modern society has in a way pacified our minds by creating this false idea that we have to play along, work their jobs to make their money to ultimately pay their bills. That leaves little to no time to look deeper into ourselves.

^^nice video, interesting explanation
______
Manifestation of thought-- great thing
I would guess, all thoughts and ideas are automatically recorded and stored in a lower dimension, just above the physical.
The stronger the thought-form, the more solid it exists in that dimension.. taking a physical-like form.

Ha ha, yeah, both of the universities I've studied at have had the quantum gravity / string theory / cosmology people in the maths department rather than physics.
On the whole, though, it seems almost sad that such a massive percentage of popular physics focuses on trying (and understandably mostly failing) to explain the big quantum and cosmological ideas that only a couple of dozen people in the world are close to understanding and skips on the weird and interesting stuff that goes on in more mundane settings...

that's because astrophysics is some damn cool

I've actually decided to write a report on 'realism' in psychology for a module at uni so you can all have a gander and critique it when it's drafted...
In the meantime, who's good to look at for this? Sod Descartes he's been proved wrong by modern physics (but then I have to prove modern physicists could know what they're on about, damn)

thread revival!!
its quite the opposite i believe, in that consciousness isn't necessarily a dimension but consciousness isn't simply limited by dimensions to us personally
'In this model, as in a hologram, any element contains enfolded within itself the totality of its universe. Bohm's concept of totality included both matter and mind.'
