What the fuck are you on about? The entire formation of Japan is based on two plates sliding on top of each other. No conspiracy to be had. This has been expected for decades upon decades.
As far as the other parts of this disaster, people need to recognize there are 3 separate events that have occurred, and then get a grip on what's really going on. The problem is they all happened in a cause and effect manner and it's seemingly lumped together that somehow thousands of people are suffering from radiation issues.
1) an earthquake happened (moderate casualties)
2) a tsunami happened (mass, and the majority of casualties)
3) a nuclear incident occurred after a facility was damaged by said tsunami (very very few casualties at all)
if you can calm the fuck down and realize most people died from 1 and 2 you can see that 3, while potentially a big deal, to this point has not been nearly the disaster of 1 and 2.
Despite what playing video games compels you to think, people are not walking around the streets of japan sick from radiation poisoning, with skin dripping off and tumors growing out of their heads. You're more likely to find someone walking around the streets of japan sick from drinking water issues and being displaced from their homes and being lumped together in camps.
well that's all pretty fun what you say but it has a. pretty much nothing to do with what I meant and b. you put words in my mouth i never said
anyway, my point is that people are still busy doing there every day shitty lives, whilst not really doing something to help civilization. All were doing now is making our own lives more comfortable (we think) while using and wasting all of earths resources.

exactly. that's the conspiracy right there: how come that an entire island of 100 million people keep living on a piece of land of which it
has been expected for decades upon decades
that one day or another soon it would sink.
If you fail to see the real problem here then you know that you aren't really seeing the truth as well.

Just saw on the tv that we're going to lack laptops because the industries in Japan have stopped. No word about the victims whatsoever.
Dear misters of the rtbf,
I DONT THINK THAT JAPANESE PEOPLE GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT OUR MOTHERFUCKING LAPTOPS AT THE MOMENT
kind regards

I think the japanese people care about rebuilding, which requires money, which requires industry, which this story is talking about them possibly lacking, which would damage their industry, which would damage their monetary gain, which would damage their rebuilding efforts, which the japanese care about.

This was a pretty cool story i thought.
Mobsters on a mission: How Japan's mafia launched an aid effort
Just hours after the worst earthquake in a generation plunged Japan into crisis, the nation's mafia sprang into action. So began the yakuza relief effort
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 64031.html
(its from the independent so i have no idea what is (if any) is fact)) (dont know what to trust source wise anymore)

I'd say the Independent is trustworthy, in fact I'd think most professional journalists and publications are fairly trustworthy in the facts they give because their reputations and careers are on the line as well as possible libel etc if they are straight up lie. Its just what stories are told and how the facts are spun that needs reading between the lines.

I am pretty concerned about the radiation coming straight to the west coast of north america but no one else seems to worried. I must just be paranoid or something

working in the nuclear industry i think im qualified to say this ^ is the best statement to come out of this thread.
the thing to bear in mind is the damage directly related to radiation exposure is pretty much fuck all compared to what happened in the earthquake and tsunami, bear in mind this is one of the biggest natural disasters in recorded history and the nuclear power station is a prototype design over 40 years old.
any theories that nuclear isnt the way forward after this can fuck right off, if anything this is the biggest promotion for nuclear power ever.

Yes but do you think that's what the tv had in mind when they did that ? I don't, the only word that was said about Japan was to say where those laptop components come from, If they really did care don't you think they would've explained what you explained ?

Well it's all about "how does the news impact me?"
As tragic as the situation in Japan is, a few weeks out, it's no longer relevant to the average westerner. This story shows how the situation in Japan is a global issue. I've also seen stories about how Toyota has told the west to expect very few cars this summer. That's a big deal globally as Toyota is a massive industry.
Not saying this is what I personally do and do not care about, but I understand why a television station finds this relevant to its viewers. It's comparable to the oil spill last year and seafood prices.... or 9-11 and stock issues.

In your estimation, how long do you think the land around the plant will be unusable/uninhabitable? At what radius?

seeing as the material released from any explosions has a very short half life i'd say a hell of a lot less that you'd think. unlike chernobyl there wasnt contaminated waste scattered for miles and miles around.
the fact it was rated as an INPO level 7 disaster doesn't mean it will have the same consequences as chernobyl it just means there was an uncontrolled wide spread release, it does not concern whether that release was iodine 127 with a half life of 7 odd seconds, or uranium 235 with a half life of tens of thousands of years. the media were locked in on the nuclear disaster because its a man made thing and it 'might' have turned out like chernobyl, there should be more focus on earthquake and tsunami aid, as has been said multiple times before, natural disasters like haiti, new orleans, and now this drop off the radar all too quickly, yet human mistakes, the ones we can learn from and do something about stay in the public eye for an eternity.
