nice. for some reason i felt like your bday would be on the second as well. its a good day for sure
as far as the monitors. not only the sound, but also the durability matters to me as well. im just looking for a decent monitor that will sound good and last me through mixing, and everyday listening. i was just hoping more people had the fostex's so they could assure me theres no real issues with them like hot amps failing or flabby bass, or whatever it may be...
that brings up another point. i will be using the monitors for everyday listening as well. and iv read that the krk's do sound a bit too good to be totally flat, where i read one post that the fostex pm1's actually made music sound a bit less interesting, maybe because they are more flat?
also it seems the fostex have 45 watts going to the tweeter and no adjustment on gain for that, does this mean they will be a little bright and possibly fatiguing?

I reckon the Rokit 6's are pretty coloured (racialist) in sound. I have them and Dynaudio BM15's setup which are pretty flat. I find the Rokit's delivered a vibrant and enhanced low end, so I find them not great for flat monitoring but good for actual listening. Dunno if that's the same as the 'rp6's'?
Someone compared the fostex offering to the yamaha range and said they were better. if they're better than the msp5's for that money, buy them without a second thought. MSP5s are fucking great for the size and money.

thanks man, thats great news. i actually was just looking into the fostex pm0.5 mkII subwoofer as well. so if i got the fostex pm1's and the subwoofer, seems like it would be a pretty good match. looks like i just may get that combo. im just hoping the sub will be strong enough...

i was wondering wtf u were talking about haha! i just went with it.
btw any idea in how to find out what the built in crossover frequency of the fostex pm0.5 mkII subwoofer is and if it will work well with the pm1's?
i cant seem to find much on that subject :/

Perhaps it is adjustable? It really should be. Krk sub is adjustable.

no its not, its fixed...i wish it was adjustable. but its only 200 bucks vs 400 for the krk sub. it was made to be used with the pm0.5 monitors which have almost exactly the same frequency response as the pm1's. do you think it would work alright for the pm1's in that case?
i read a few people at gearslutz had this sub though and said it was excellent for the money...

with just the gain you mean? theres also a + and - phase switch. not sure what that is really.
im more concerned with the crossover though. i wish they clearly listed the crossover frequency...
my guess is that the crossover frequency would be right at 50hz, where both monitors have a flat response from. but the pm1's actually go down to 38hz (-10db). so the sub would probably just take over 20-50hz.
heres the sub specs. im not certain to what frequency this sub is flat to...
LF Unit
200mm
Frequency Response
25Hz - 85Hz
Woofer Low Frequency Cut-Off
20Hz (-18dB/octave)
Woofer High Frequency Cut-Off
55Hz (-18dB/octave)
Output Low Frequency Cut-Off
120Hz (-12dB/octave)
Amp Power
110 watts
Amp Distortion
<0.002% T.H.D. @ 50w
4 Ohm 20Hz - 20kHz
Amp Signal to Noise
>80dB 22Hz - 90Hz
not weighted
Phase
Positive / negative switchable

Adjusting the crossover can help in tuning.

But really, your ears should be the judge.
Not to troll, but I find most people buying their first pair of monitors have been using poor (for their purpose) speakers for so long their ears really aren't qualified to tell them which is better, they just both sound frighteningly awesome in the store.
On topic, the krks have no sub control by a HF boost/damp control. Just turn that up and turn the overall volume down. Also I just did a session on my krks from two in the afternoon till 11pm, only stopping to record and regularly turning the vol up to the highest they would go before distorting, and I'll tell you now when the amp gets hot the speakers get quieter. Turn em off for 5 mins and their back to full volume again, and sound just as rock solid.
Finally I agree that the krks sound better than most monitors but IMO they still translate well. The advantage is that they don't fatigue my ears anywhere near as quick as the Yamahas I also use.

shit my mind is like krk def, eh maybe fostex. no krk. fuck that fostex are the way to go. krk maybeeee???? fuck me lol
im wondering if the fostex will be fatiguing because they have more juice going to the tweets and no gain for the tweets.

Personally if I was in your boots, (assuming you don't have regular clients that care more about how stuff looks than sounds like I do) I would get the fostex just to be different, and hope I don't come to regret my choice.

Yeah, I'm with that, but baby steps. Hearing all available monitors in the same room, you can start to sleuth out monitors that have bumps and dips.
Thinking out loud -> Personally need to step up to the next level, krk 5's and sub here. Room treatment would help me a whole lot more, but I'm not psyched about the cancer risk associated with rockwool products. Am in a limbo. I need to step up my monitoring, just kind of stuck...

thats kind of what im thinking. krk's are very cliche at the moment for a bedroom producer. and the fostex do seem to be getting the love in europe and most of all australia. oh and btw i think the fostex look just as professional as the krk's. if anything imo the yellow on the krk's seems a bit less professional imo.
and at the end of the day i dont need fucking amazing monitors. i just need something that i will be able to mix with, listen to music with, and have them last me a while and not fatigue me really thats it. i mean lets face it. i dont even finish many songs because im constantly learning so much more by the time i get close to finish a song i just start a new one because i know it can be so much better. but im just doing it for fun right now and to learn...
so really i guess it doesn't matter which monitor i get. i just want to make sure i have no regrets like you said.
welp ill sleep on it tonight and place my order tm. probly gonna go with the fostex unless someone can point out a deal breaker to me.
@nowaysj what kind of sub you got bro? and im sure there must be rockwool alternatives. ill look into that next.

i want that but its a bit too pricey.
im looking at the fostex pm0.5 mk2 sub and the prodipe pro10s sub. both are $200-250 and have similar specs to the krk 10.
whats your opinion on the krk's vs the fostex btw?
