Honestly the bbfc have the longest history of being retards. At least this time they aren't just giving in to media pressure though.

And on the subject of the film. Yep it sounds pointless and a cash cow.

And who ever said "even Ichi the killer has merits..." what's that supposed to mean. It's obviously a great movie. No question

I said I could work out the point... it is indeed a very good movie (dunno about great). It has a plot, but more importantly it has some brilliant characters who develop motives you can understand for acts of extreme violence - there's a reason pulling you to watch a man hung by rings pierced through his skin having boiling fat poured all over him. It makes sense and therefore it's not just gore-porn, it's an extreme piece of art.

I singled it out because in the selection of films that have almost cartoonishly extreme violence, it's one of the few that actually stand up as a coherent work rather than just a futile exercise in shocking the viewer.

I'm guessing his reason for extreme unexplainable violence is to suggest that we all have these depths within us, but only some choose to plumb them. that's what upsets (frightens) moralists.

The first film was a comedy.... The director probably went home laughing every night while making the sequel because branding it "The sickest movie ever" is without a doubt THE best marketing you can have!

I am not sure there is anything to be intellectualised from it. It's hard to tell without seeing the film but from the article it seems that it was the sexualisation of violence and suffering was the main protagonist of the film. I don't think it's supposed to hold up a mirror to ourselves or anything, I think it's a film about well.. the sexualisation of violence. That's what the BBFC object to I think.

Personally I'd like to make my own mind up and not the BBFC, so I'll be one of the tens of millions who will now download it as a result of the banning!

well maybe that wasn't his intention but I still think it's an underlying reason for their repulsion.

£10 says that in 2020 we'll see Dot Cotton on Eastenders going through similar experiences.

I see. Your usual standard of comment. I don't know why anyone bothers, tbh.

If you are able to expand on why Ichi the Killer is either not "extreme" or a "piece of art", be my guest. I'd be surprised if you could though, because you're a fucking moron.

well a piece of art is only 'extreme' if you put it in a certain context. so it's meaningless to describe a piece of art as 'extreme' unless you state the locus of your perspective.

extraordinary is more accurate/useful.

You don't see the shit in Se7en though.

It's like when the bbfc cut the nipple slashing from New York Ripper. You still know it happens but the bbfc decided you can't be allowed to see the blade actually cut across the boob as it sexualizes the violence aparantly.

The name that keeps on giving.
