ask her out in real time...

Do it like this...

tell her that you are putting in a formal bid for her affection
and that you would like to have lunch to see if it could be fun...
at the very least you could be friends...

then either be denied entry...

or have a fun lunch - and then leave her with your number
to call back in a few days if she wants to go out again...

but be sure to tell her the offer expires in 10 days...so for her to be dilligent

then wait...
haha this is genius, itd probably work if she's got a sense of humour too

...I haven't really considered the part about - if YOU hate her after lunch...

just disappearing into the crowd would be damaging...

at least give her an FB message/text or something if it doesn't work out. be honest if you don't fancy her, it'll be better for her in the end.

..I'm thinking

..that even if the lunch is :x

if she calls back - you should at least give it a go as friends...

There is nothing wrong with going out with a girl as friends...
you don't have to smooch her...

If she gets all psycho and wants to have the talk - just tell her

You're not really feeling it - but you still can chill as friends...
you may need a wing girl/guy...

who knows - maybe you and/or she may have friends that it would work with...

the confusion comes in when people don't know where they stand...

You should be friends for awhile before you go sealing deals anyway...

I know that's a very girl thing to be saying.

Same shit's happenin to me. 'Cept I got kicked out, and we never really spoke to each other, she just smiled at me every once in a while and at the time, I wasn't really noticing girls as such, but now I am and I realize I'm a twat for not speaking to her any sooner.

How old are you OP? 14-16? Not trying to offend if you're older, but taking a guess from the nervousness/popular kids bit you mentioned.

I don't get the facebook thing either. It also makes me feel old. Like when people rather text than call on a phone. Nothing wrong with it, but it's just not as personal... especially when the goal is to get more personal.

I'll say this though, confidence is key. IMO, you'd have more of a shot just sparking up a conversation in person. If someone I regularly saw in person asked me out online, I would automatically assume she was going to be timid and very standoffish in person. Not that that's necessarily bad, I am attracted to shy girls. It just means it's extra work to get to know someone, and people aren't always willing to do that, especially at young ages. If she had good conversational skills online, I would hope that would transfer over in person. For example... if she types paragraphs with structured sentences, I'd be more likely to meet up in person. Just my opinion, but not being able to talk to someone in person is a bit of a turn off.

Get to know this guy she might date, or find out about him. Then you can get at least a vague idea of the type of person she likes. Same goes for others she spends her time with. Are you similar to them at all? Differences are good, but I'm a firm believer that you have to have at least some common ground to work with.

Also check her facebook for stuff she does, films or music etc. So you can find out if you like the same stuff and have something to talk about. Don't fake it and lie though, and be careful not to cross over into stalker territory haha.

Maybe next time you talk to her on Facebook just be completely honest and ask her out for coffee or something, if she finds that weird tell her you couldn't find the right time in person. As long as she sees you want to actually get to know her face to face it should go down well. If she's actually interested at all, that is... Good luck with it either way :Q:

I'm in pretty much the reverse situation at the moment, got a lecture with this girl once a week and I don't have her on FB or see her anywhere else. First week of the semester I saw her and said "I have to talk to that girl" but I missed my chance, so second week I sat down right next to her and to my pleasant surprise she started talking to me. Talked for about 20 minutes before we found out the lecture got cancelled and I was planning to ask for her number outside, then on the way out she ran into a male friend of hers. Tried to keep the conversation going but slowly got third-wheeled as they started going on about shit that was happening in other classes that they share. Just kinda awkwardly said "Well I guess I'll see you next week!"

Slightly wanting to murder that guy now... gonna make another attempt this week though, fingers crossed

I kinda disagree with this...

my two longest and most comfortable relationships started tumultuous....

I seriously disliked my last one on first impression...
and although I did eventually end it after 4 years of living together...
It wasn't because we didn't function extremely well together on a daily basis...

It was because he wasn't handling new influences at all....
Everytime he made a new friend it was like living with that new person...

Towards the end I was like "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!!?? CHAD!!??"
I felt like I was talking directly to the foreign soul residing in a possessed person...

But that's a whole nother story...soul surfing

i like the awkward ''get to know each other'' part.. figuring out what to say, trying not to make a fool out of yourself..it's the most exciting and certainly not telling whether she/he is the one or not. i'm not really socially awkward, but i'll get nervous like any human who has a bit of an attraction..it's cute =3
