Just use the sine, triangle, square and saw waveforms in massive. Work with those. The limitations with Massive's sound lie in your ear and experience. There are a lot of great synths out there but you're never going to get anywhere until you can make one of them your bitch.

It definitely should. That's the root of the problem here.

Change the I to match you'll find Massive is all you need.

I love 3xOsc and Massive <3 I really think you only need those synths to make good and unique sounds, you just have to experiment and stuff. But if I had to come with some suggestions, I really like Sylenth and Albino.

Trust me, you won't learn anything from youtube tutorials. Just open Massive and try new waveforms you never tried before, new knobs you never used before, add modulators to what you haven't added before, etc! It's the only way to learn.

Massive is very complete if you don't follow the typical path everyone follows.

This is not true, I learned a shitload from youtube tutorials. There's not only "how to make xx bass" on youtube. I watched some videos that explained in-depth how to work with massive. But you have a point that experimenting is also needed.

I am also on the boat of... any synth is what you make it. There's just way too many things you can do to alter its timbre and character.

The Talk to Me Bass from Kill The Noise was made on Massive... that blows my mind.

After you process your basses to hell, I find that your effects and that process gives it just as much character as the synth itself. Not to mention combining different synths to make interesting basses/leads.

Wouldnt it be amazing if you could somehow FM modulate the oscs with multiple instances of massive?

Some of the wave forms are quite nice in massive...in the swich over to FM8 there is not as many osc options unfortunately.

cuz FM probably doesn't rly sound good with complex waveforms as carriers. modulate Chrome with Roughmath or whatever, it'll likely reduce it to near-white noise. If you wanna see what happens with complex waves + FM you can test it out in Reason's Subtractor

albino, or gladiator. The only other good alternatives to massive I know of are the other NI stuff which you mentioned and reason's stuff. I got bored of massive and started to rewire reason with my DAW, logic. Worked extremely well for me once I got over the learning curve. You have to be prepared to do the learning though if you want to move synths.

Like others have said, you gotta spend a lot of time experimenting, i think you would be better off sticking with it.

Switching now you will just lose time learning the interface and mapping of your new synth.

massive has insane potential, i highly doubt you have tapped it all... just my .02

Yes I know but using one complex would be great, you dont really have that option in FM

Try using Rop Papen plugins. I know Rusko and a lot of dubstep producers use it. Ive seen some top notch patches come out of all of his products.
