I reckon any synth is as good as you make it.
If you spent time learning how everything works then you could create anything, but don't ask me i only use Massive and Razor

i got back my arturia moog collection so that's been keeping me busy. by contrast to Massive, they're hard to program (unless you grew up patching real moogs... i didn't) , bt sound amazing. The sound that comes out of these things is something special
Massive not as much

( Thor's brain + Subtractor's oscillators + malestrom's filters/waveshaping + Scream4 ) + (in a combinator + unlimited instances + mixer + RV7000 and Delay on Aux sends) >>>>> Massive

I guess it depends on how you like to produce personally. I've found that when I start messing around with Massive I just end up tweaking knobs forever without getting much done. Usually I just use Sylenth or FM8 because I find additive synthesis more intuitive when I'm after a specific sound. Scrubbing through wavetables is too much of a crap shoot to be efficient imo, but it's fun for when I'm bored and mindlessly screwing around. I've also found that I get the best sounds when I focus more on the effect chain and post processing, so now I just use basic patches with different effect racks/resampling. Aside from speeding up the sound design process, it's helped me really lock in with Ableton's native effects so my productions all-around are a step up.

Doubt it, it looks messy at a first glance, not doubting its abilitys as i havnt watched any tutorials but i think the reason people like massive so much is because everything is laid out really clearly and being able to place envelopes or LFOs on most controls

If you make wobble bass generic dubstep, Massive is the one. It sounds plastic. If you want to make warm house or rugged techno, fuck Massive, seriously. There are much better options. It's not going to give you that authentic sound without alot of processing, IMO.

Zebra
Z3ta
Diva (so sick)
Albino

I love Albino personally.

Yeah, I switched over to Ableton from Reason and started trying to get used to Massive. It can make some cool sounds, it's simple, but the "plastic" aspect is something I haven't been able to get over.

I should start working on Albino...

Massive is hands down my favorite VST. The sounds you can get out of that synth just blow me away and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out either.

That's not sad. That just means that NI are doing something right that other developers are doing wrong.

Since when was 'advancement in technology' about keeping things difficult? If you think there's something wrong with making complex technology more accessible. Maybe it's time you've started living in the woods and went hunting for food rather than buying things at your convenience store.

Well what I think he is saying is that the only sounds people can make they leErned on you tube, so actually don't know the synth at all. I took it to mean that at least. I couldn't care less what people know or don't know, just don't like people being discouraged from an easy to get started with synth that actually has quite a bit of depth. People think they should use fm8 and stand little chance of doing anything other than use presets, and then get turned off synthesis altogether.

In a sense it is very intuitive. You can hop on to it knowing shit for shit about sound design or anything of the sort and manage to come out with something or other. Also, it has a huuuge library of premade patches, which you can tweak in the littlest way to make it sound different (sooooo easy to spot lazy brostep producers).
NI's other synth is really good too, FM8. Much more complicated because it is actually frequency modulation synthesis, unlike massive, but it too also has an overwhelming amount of patches that you can just mess around with and grab inspiration and ideas from if you aren't feeling like learning :D
