Nice weight, both silver and gold, nice latin on the side." To which he replied "ah i disagree, i think its a bit too european." He favoured the silver finish and shape of the 50pence piece. What does this mean, and why have i even posted this discussion.

could you please tell you friend that I think his musings re: coins, are awesome and led to an awesome thread?. thanks

the decoy wrote:I a fan of the plain old quarter, the workhorse of the american monetary system. not all flashy like that golden dollar with the native american lady on it, not all smelly like the penny (seriously, smell a penny, they stink) nt as easily lost as a dime, or as usless as a nickel.
the quarter is where it's at.
i miss quarters.
but out of the british coins, i'd have to say the £1 coin. nice weight, nice size, feels good in your hand.

I like the £2 - feels surprisingly bling for such an insignificant sum

My top seven:
KRUGERRAND
My lucky silver 1c bit (us$)
the old 1/2 p ( sixteenth anyone? )
1 Nira (also lucky)
all the old european money (damn the euro)
the old Hong Kong 1 dollar (lucky)
Whatever the double headed thing is in SHOLAY (1rupee?)
I have all these coins apart from the last one...
anyone know what it is????? what a classic!
p.s. The old or new 10p is NO GOOD...."ten pence" is slang for poor or shoddy work in the carpentry/film scenery game.
(i.e. it's worth ten pence)
example: "that remix you done for so and so was ten pence mate" haha

oh and anyone remember playing "pound up" at school/work/the pub e.t.c.
happy memories of waiting for the pub to re-open in the afternoon, playing on the front wall of the pub, few of us there, you could walk away with best part of a score if you were lucky.
presumably this is outlawed now, like smoking.

When they start breathalyzing you at the bar and refuse to serve you for not "drinking responsibly" then you know fun times over.

well that's already the law in this country, mate.
A barman MUST refuse to serve someone who is already intoxicated, on penalty of loss of licence for the landlord.
suits me, I'm not allowed to drink any more anyway.
Still up for a round of quid up though......
