Mannnn reading this I realise how lame I am. I'll just bring up different compression settings and see how they react to different audio passing through. :dunce:

Working on a new template is always an ongoing pursuit.

& If I'm not feeling that creative I'l try and find new music and listen to as much of it as possible, usually solves the problem.

Having an an lfo automate the sample start on a sampler for a vocal track can be a neat lazy way to find cool little chops.

Yeah i know this feeling well. What synths, fx, routings etc to start with? Am i limiting myself by starting with the same things? Etc. I've been through dozens of templates, sometimes i just start with an empty project.

One option is to sample your own from your music collection, it's fairly easy to isolate kicks, snares etc. That's all a lot of sample packs are anyhow.

Or if you have a drum rompler(Addictive Drums, Superior Drummer etc), you could sample those sounds as they've been recorded live and you should get a cleaner sound. Or just play them with the rompler.

Youtube has an infinite amount of possibility when it comes to grabbing samples. Movies are great for vocals, computer games often have a huge folder with .wav files.

Ooh that sounds fun. What sampler are you using? I've never really gotten into plugin samplers much as I just used my daws sampler but I can't automate the sample start with an lfo to do this. damn you 09xx effect

I disagree, but I don't want to derail the thread. I'm liking this thread, new stuff to try. 8)

Maybe some of you have done this before or have a really great plugin that does it for you, I haven't encountered any...
I routed a track to a send track so that it duplicates the signal to send track 1. On send track 1 it has a delay with feedback turned down so it only echoes once. Then it's routed to keep its signal and duplicate it to send track 2. Send track 2 has the same set up and it keeps going for however many send tracks I want. So you can control each delay echo and process it differently, like with filtering, pitch shifting, muting some of them so you have a rhythmic pattern, gating, reverse (anybody know a plugin other than dblue glitch for reversing a sound during playback?). I'll probably get a few days worth of fun out of this :D

I think one of the Ableton samplers lets you do this. I'm not sure if Kontakt does, I think I tried it ages ago. You can get some crazy results!

i throw on DiversionFX CM (since iv made presets with all the modulators, FX & matrix in use) on whatever channel desired,
record the track looped for ten minutes in edison.

once recorded i select "auto-slicing" in edison & then i audition each chopped slice (listening through one by one using the arrow keys) and i save the best ones.

i think its the main thing i do to stop getting bored since the results are inspiring + it's so quick to set up.
it might not sound as good whilst recording it, but when listening through it all as short cut up material rather than a big shitmix.. it's really quite awesome :)

gonna try this on leads and real instruments next since iv only been doing this with basses and percussive stuff, would be nice hearing other people's results using this technique, you can use love philter or any other multi-FX too.

EDIT: also you can just loop one sound and continuously record that (as the FX's modulation keeps changing of course) and pick the best result just to quickly improve/make a variation of it.

open up any project file of a finished song, put the bpm to the lowest possible, play it. then put it to the highest possible. hilarity will ensue

I mostly working in reason, so I am using the first nn-xt and a combinator to automate the sample start.

Anyone got examples of extreme things you do when bored/experimenting?

i put my monitors on my wall when im bored and play my neighbors my whole sample library with a hint of distortion
