FL.

I had massive issues trying to get my PadKontrol working with FL6 IIRC, which ultimately led to me selling it.

I am running Ableton Live and it's been a couple of years since I did those experiments using a Kaoss Pad KP2 as a midi controller but I was successful and I know that it can be done.

FL isn't the most intuitive for incorporating hardware, so I may well have to turn to the darkside and get a lapt to run Ableton on IF I ever decide to go fully live with things and need something to tie it all together. Slightly cheaper option than getting an Octatrack.

How so? I've never run into a major issue integrating any of my hardware into FL Studio. MIDI, Audio...both worked fine. The only thing I never figured out how to do was to use FL's piano roll to sequence my Monomachine...but that was just me being a nerd, lol.

Anyway, lots of great discussion here : ) Tracking says I'll have my KP3 by Monday.

Maybe it's just me then...for the most part I do the sound design work 'offline', so to speak, then record directly into Audacity and edit from there.

Again, something that will be addressed with the eventual studio machine rebuild that is coming.

Yea, I mean, getting things to work isn't that straightforward I guess. But its rare I can't get something to work. MIDI stuff can be a bit tricky. But routing audio is a breeze, even in and out of the DAW via an interface.

So you are mostly recording hardware into Audacity then or...? Curious about your setup at the moment : )

wub speaks the truth, although you can always download drivers and such, in comparison with ableton, i find FL to be a bit fiddly with hardware incorporation..
its still my DAW of choice, but i have friends who plug hardware into live 8 or live 9 and ableton just instantly adopts and maps all the controller's specific functions as if it was second nature.
as i said, i much prefer FL but im a tiny bit jealous of abletons functionality..

Wub, I had some issue, i think with the padkontrol, but at the system level. Once my system had it straight, it was available and essentially plug and play in flstudio.

Frag - I mentioned that virtual studio I was building, yeah, there are a few from the Kaoss line. kp3, kaossilator. Korg has gotten a lot of my money over the years. Ea-1 er-1(both stolen, wish I had them, really really bad) microkorg, microsampler. I will get one of these, but they are not first on my list. You think $180 is about normal, or is that a smoking deal? Just a year or two ago they were much higher used.

Oh yeah wub, you're going to shit your pants with newer versions of flstudio. So fast, and audio audio audio. Gotta check out their live performance capabilities too. If you are an fl head, and are leaning ableton for live purposes, dig into fl's live capabilities.

Yep. I remember the virtual studio. I had an ESX for a while. Like you...really really wish I still had it just because its damn fun. It was kind of an impulse purchase and I had cash to burn. It was the beast deal by 75 dollars on ebay when I bought if. But rightnafter I payed another one popped up for 10 less than what I paid...so I dunno. Most of the used prices were too near new for me.

yeah fl 10 is amazing.
havent moved to 11 yet, still dabble with 9 as well as they dropped a few features such as the block pattern thing in the bottom half of the playlist etc.. and a few other things i really enjoyed..

yet to scope fl11 but i hear its on par with ableton live 9 now as it has the clip-launch/live play feature, it has some cool visualiser thing now too apparently?
as i said, yet to use. might make it a weekend project. ;)

Yeah, was thinking of bumping up to 11. I hate HATE upgrading. But 10, after years of fucking pain, fixed somethings that really enhanced my workflow. The single biggest was make unique as a sample. Dream come true.

But after long last, I've pretty much got 10 set up. Plugin database is pretty straight...

whats this 'make unique as a sample' business?

In the play list if you're working with an audio clip, if you want to make a copy of the clip that isn't a reference to the original audio clip, meaning you can do destructive editing to it without effecting the original file, you can just right click it and choose make unique as sample. In the past you had to record the audio clip to audio to be used, now it is instant. Doesn't sound like much but I do it a hundred times in a project now, before I'd do it like 10 just cause it was a drag to do. Yes I'm lazy.

I just picked a gently used one up recently. My friends and I have an all vinyl dj crew. We have 4 dex set up and our other man on an Octapad. I wanted to add another element so when I'm not on the dex I am using a mic in with the vocoder which is wonderful and then I have some samples loaded up as well. My only complaint with it is that you can only load 4 samples in and you have to load them one at a time. So, for sample launching it's limited. It's all about the Vocoder though! ;-)

ahh yes i see what you mean! like if you trim a bit off a vocal loop and you wanna mod the pitch or fx without it affecting the loop you trimmed it from! i didnt know you could do this!!
legend mate im so keen to get this cracking in a few im working on atm.. ;)

I got a KP3 off of eBay a few months ago. It seemed like $180-200 was more or less the going rate for a used KP3 in good condition. There were also a lot of weirdos that were trying to get like $300 for them. (Amazon will put a brand new KP3 in my hand for $270, shipped. What's your deal, eBay guy?) I got mine for $135, which made me feel a little like I robbed the guy.
