In that track, is that just a normal kick with the sub layered right under it? How do you make sure the frequencies aren't clashing?
I have tried countless different ways of going about this.
- side chaining the kick into the bass.
- cutting a kick under 70hz, boosting it hard at 100hz, and cutting the bass above 80hz - so that they kind of fit together.
But none of these options are getting me the results I want.
I've read tons of posts but just can't get it sounding like I want it.
Is it just a full EQ'd kick sample with the bass layered underneath. Perhaps with the attack pushed back on the bass? (I make my 808 style bass in Massive.)

For a newer producer, either sidechain your kick to your bass or LP your bass synth and boost your kick between 250-500 or even a little higher depending on your taste.

Oh yeah and make sure to pick quality samples of course. Very cliche, but a shtty kick is a shtty kick, hard to eq/lp/whatever to make it legit.

Okay, so this is kick theory. What gives the ear the impression that the kick is weighty is the punch of the kick. It's snappy and loud and it transitions right into the low end like a normal kick would do sweeping down frequencies. There isn't much low end to the kick in the tune. I would suggest finding a kick with a lot of top end, and cropping the punch transient and a bit of the body and work that into your tune.

Keep in mind the vast majority of filters don't just drop straight down at the cutoff frequency like miley cyrus' ass. It happens over a bandwidth around the cutoff. If you're setting a lowpass on your bass at 80hz, that doesn't mean nothing above 80 gets through. Same goes for your kick's highpass. I definitely wouldn't have the two cutoffs right on top of each other, pull that highpass up on your kick.
Jesus I actually went and listened to the track. Why are you even trying to have a kick and bass going at once? If I were you, I'd make an 808 type patch with a pitch envelope, and then layer a really highpassed kick over top of it. I'm talking highpassing at 1k, not 100. You're doing the equivalent of trying to fit a rhino and an ox in a Honda Civic.
