Burial - Broken Home into Random Trio - Indian Stomp sounds nice

Fat freddys drop - Cays crays (Mala mix) - Blackdown - Crackle Blues ( Burial Remix) also very nice

got my decks about 6 months ago and im fairly good now. shit at mixing anything else though cos ive pretty much only mixed dubstep. easiest way for me is to match the snares, in quite a lot of tunes i find it really hard to hear the kicks
tried mixing on my computer with traktor and just had no idea what to do, such an interface change from turntables to a mouse, really couldnt get my head round it. so i gave up
and yeah burials a bastard to mix

These two points sre spot on, often the snares are off beat as well, and sometimes the vocals can through you off, like in loefahs punisher remix which makes it sound too slow. So look for something distinctive and repetative and just feel it (corny but true) at first it can be frustrating but in the end itll be fun. also to get a good mix you have to know youre tracks, so its best to buy tracks youve heard on cd and then try and imitate the mixing and then move onto your own. Id recomend the radical and burning mix in allstars 5 as its relatively simple and sounds sick!!

i find i always go for the first beat of the loop with burial tracks. you've less to compare it to less often but seems the only way. when you get to know the tracks inside out it gets easier

correct. pepper spray is essentally drum and bass. if you want to match tempo and genre

Dubstep and breakstep are great to mix IMO, you can really mess around with the snares. Start off with tracks by the likes of Search & Destroy and Toasty, they have nice patterns and generally even off-beat hihats that you can use to beatmatch.

I started mixing with breakstep and garage and picked up beatmatching on a pair of belt drive turntables (oof) so it gets a bit easier once you get hold of a decent pair of DDs

sadly, I live in Sweden and all of my vinyl is in a bsment in Bermondsey so I have to make do with crappy CD mixers at the moment

hardly any of burials tunes are so off the beat that that happens though

You've answered your own question. It's 4/4 at ~140ish... if you can mix house/techno/breaks, you can mix dubstep.

hell, if you can count to 4, you can mix dubstep... though to be honest, it seems like 95% of people can't even count to 3 and are attempting to be dubstep "dj's"

i try to go purely from kick drums. i used to mix by snare when i first started, if you can get your head round kick drum tunes stay in time longer (due to snares sometimes having a slow attack or being a longer sound), plus i find it alot easier to mix anything 4/4 or with multiple snares

mixing music by matching drums is such a waste of time... just listen to the tunes ffs

1/Always dance when your mixing, even if its just a shake of your hand.

2/Make your selections according to how you want your set to sound and try and imagine how the incoming record will sound best when integrated with the already playing one.

Not exactly groundbreaking news but in my opinion essential as first and foremost dancing a little gets you into the way the different rhythms of the tracks are working and imagining the sounds of the tracks takes away the formulaic element that makes mixing House and DnB potentially very boring by by just beatmatching and blending any old track because the majority of tunes will work together in some way. This advice is obviously not specific to Dubstep but definitely required (again imo) to take advantage of the variety of interesting and good quality music found within 'Dubstep' and its extended family of genres

It helps if you are a producer, as well(lol, or maybe not considering how shit a lot of Dubstep producers are at mixing!).

I know when I started producing music, I learned pretty quick how to break it down on a different level. You said you already know how to mix--there is no method specific to Dubstep for mixing... practice your turntablism no matter what genre it is...

next step is to listen to TECHNO DJ's... don't bother listening to Dubstep DJ's... 95% of them are total SHIT DJ's(sorry guys, a few aren't!). Techno DJ's are AGGRESSIVE mixers. THAT is how you should mix dubstep. Careful layering and aggressively mixing. Listen to what KEY the tunes are in... matching beats... a monkey that can count, can do that.

If I were you, I would also either download or purchase Ableton LIVE(download it first, it's not cheap--but please buy it when you know you like it, it's VERY worth the money!!!!) and learn how to mix with Ableton as well...
