Well lots of snares (and rimshots) let's face it - riddims were so much better a few years back. Still there's always TRG, Martyn, Untold and a few others that are doing it well now, so I don't give up hope entirely.

Does kind of piss me off when I hear a good 2 steppy tune on the net and then the same artist will put out some halfstep bollocks just cause it sells. Plenty of other people seem to think the same, shame more labels don't think it's commercially viable.

favorite tune on the Pressing Issues block is the C and E from the AA list... mainly for the reasons you stated... the only tunes that are carried by percussion and melody as opposed to JUST bass and they aren't being voted on. I suspect a certain bit of foulplay involved in the voting, but maybe we're alone on this... who knows.. I DO know that I can't wait to hear what Horsepower is going to do... been waiting for a LONG time.

Yeah i voted for that more intersting rythmic tune think it was c on the aa side. I cought between c and e to be honest but c just about pulled through.

Still don't know why they just don't just stick the top 12 up and then pick the two highest.

This has to be the only "dance" genre that puts such little importance on beats I've ever come across and you still get people asking how to put together a dubstep rhythm - PML

Plenty more interesting ways to carve up a bar than halfstep boom bap or 4/4, what happened to imagination?

As Kuma said we have a remix by Horsepower coming Jan 08, audio should be about in the near future. Its Horsepower representing their production and sounds in 08, people shall have to wait and see.

My aim with Immerse has and always been to push innovative sounds in whatever form that presents itself and I like to think I am achieving that. I have big plans for the label in '08, this is just the begining.

@Shonky - we just put out ime005, i think kisses of fire would be right up your street.

I also think ime005 has two examples of half step tune done well and bringing their own style, and thus some thing new, to the table.

carnt wait for horspowers new stuff, really looking forward to it! y not lets all enjoy wat we enjoy. For gods sake this was a thread about horsepower, not about that fact that dubstep tunes are 'obviously' boring at the moment cus they all sound the same, cus last time i listened to a dubstep mix that wasnt of classics it was just one long samey bassline theres so much shit out there right now. GOD PRODUCERS START MAKING SOMETHING ORIGINAL!

Hmmm, not really to be honest. Looking forward to the HP mix though. To be honest there's very few instances of halfstep that I actually like, I don't really find downtempo music that interesting when I'm out clubbing. Tunes are good but not really my thing

Fair enough although I wouldnt say 'Kisses of Fire' is downtempo, with the hats and what not it doesnt even feel like a half step tune to me.

I dont know whether its because of stuff i get sent or down to what i play but there are LOADS of good tunes out that arent halfstep or wobble and im not saying that either of those are bad things, every thing has its place.

oh yawnstep Shonky, change the record I beg you. Maybe dubstep just isn't for you, listen to something else instead of punishing yourself with music you don't like, and us with the same whinge over & over & over.

In the nicest possible way. :6:

Why doesn't he post any more? He is missed. I would never have known anything about Honda Civics (89-91) if it wasn't for him.

Thinking, you actually got me into Dubstep and you didn't even know it... one of your old garage mixes that had a few early dubstep tunes in it... no wobble involved... I remember when you used to have taste in music... what happened Image

Kidding... sorta... you really did get me into the sound with a mix I found on DOA looking for some garridge... that's the sound I fell in love with. I'm not implying that music shouldn't move forward--but it's currently moving backward, and that shit ain't right.

If you listen to the early tunes, they all had an identity and they still all sound very unique in comparison to other dubstep tunes of the same era... if you listen to 5 new tracks today, 3 of them have wobble in them that sounds pretty much the same, another one will have an interesting Wobble/Wub combo(WUBBLE?) and ONE of them will be minimal techno that was posted on a Dubstep forum...

where is the garage influence gone to?
what about the grime influence?
and the drum n bass influence?

there are exceptions of course, and nobody buys them because they don't get released... too many people are focused on the DROP and not the melody(lack of talent in the production end really... I guess that explains the HOW DO I MAKE A 4/4 beat?)

At least the boring tunes from 2 years ago had a character all their own... now the boring tunes all sound exactly the same.

no no no.
why has another thread turned to how boring dubstep is now.
IN SO MANY PPLS OPINIONS ON THIS FORUM DUBSTEP IS ALIVE A KICKING IN SO MANY WAYS!!!! ARGH! completely agree with contakt if that is wat hes getting at. Just stop it, its not a debate anymore, its just standard now that someone says 'its not like it used to be.' in so many threads. I no im being outlandish, but please, STOP GETTING EVERYONE DOWN! imho theres so many different sounds coming from so many different labels, the wobble is equaled in my opinion. GOD! now im getting involved, ARGH!!!! get us some more horespower and make the unhappy people happy again with dubstep. Cus obviously everything sounds the same now. Shit man that Jakes vs Wedge set all sounded the same y didnt i realise that? :o :o :o

loads of stuff

cool man, good to hear. :4:

I was just having a go at Shonky cos he really doesn't seem to like dubstep any more - he likes the idea of dubstep but the tunes don't meet his expectations.

For starters I don't think that the scene is 100% wobble/halfstep like everyone makes out, that's just breeze that a lot of people like to chat these days.

Secondly, I just lose patience with these 'not like it used to be' gripes. As you know, I've been into dubstep for a long time (5yrs+) but I don't get upset just cos a lot of tunes being released on vinyl and played in the clubs don't flick my switch. I broaden my horizons, reach out to unsigned producers whose music I dig, find tunes that I didn't buy first time round, or just play/buy/listen to other genres completely.

I'm just looking at the dubstep reviews i did for the issue of iDJ which is currently in the shops, here's some of the tunes:

Point B EP on Combat - coupla AMAZING glitchy 2-step numbers on there, u should check this
Martyn's first plate on his label 3024 - beautiful post-detroit dubtech
Boxcutter's Philly/Endothermic 12" on Hot Flush - amazing 2-step type grooves, cannot stop playing this one
Distance's 2nd Chestplate release - just sexy dubstep, 4/4 offstep skanker
Hessle002 (Pangaea) - wicked techno rumblings, very imaginative stuff

that's half of the tunes I reviewed for December, and all the above are interesting, wobble-free, and available now/very very soon.

So, in closing, I think that it's easy to take too much heed of all the naysayers, but really you've got to make your own mind up after making a concerted effort to listen to everything that's available.

btw if anyone thinks Horsepower are gonna sound like they used to, don't forget that the last tune from them most of us have heard was released nearly 4 years ago. ;)
