get an HP. I did heavy computing on one (including audio) for 3 and a half years and it didn't let me down once. It was built like a fucking tank as well.
My last joint was a compaq. It wasn't great. Wasn't horrible either I guess. I have a Toshiba now and it is garbage imo. Thinking about getting something cheaper and smaller basically just for djing and messing around on the web. I can't deal with the bloatware most companies stack up on their machines tho.
TinyXP ftw! Though changing OSes could void your warranty in some cases.

i only got one cos i had to borrow one off a promoter when my shite old laptop died on me before a gig and it played my ableton set ridiculously much smoother than my old laptop
best money i ever spent getting the ibm
it's even survived some div spilling a pint of beer over it
sturdy as fuck
Thinkpads aren't cheap tho. I'd love to own one.

I have never had a problem with changing OS, they have always fixed it for me. I usually get a service plan tho. I have a couple kids running around me house. I don't see how TinyXP is going to help me tho, no drivers from Tosh.

Why can't you just download the drivers you need from the toshiba site and pack them onto the cd?

To be fair though, its hard to find a good laptop for a good price....And for the price you might as well buy a desktop, its a difficult decision - unless you don't actually have a home and want to make tunes where ever you end up.
