That's why ukg (you cant knock it ) was so big because everyone did their own thing (birth of dubstep)
You absolutely can't knock the UKG sound, it gave birth not only to Dubstep, but Grime, 2 step, even current day Dubstep is more connected to the UKG sound of 1999-2002. TRG, MARTYN and others are certainly creating a vibe that are fundamentally elements of 2-step depending on your viewpoint and recollection of the genre. Hell, even UK FUNKY is a UKG Variant ( its so funny that Agent X was making this sound years ago as UGK now its back under a new moniker).
UKG has gone under so many different names and given birth to a multitude of styles, some current and some long gone and already forgotten. SUB LOW, 8 BAR, NICHE, BASSLINE, TECH STEP, 4x4, bumpy 4x4, and more.
where are the people responsible for all the great tunes though?
STICKY, BIGSHOT, DONAEO, QUALIFIED, DJ SKI, ED CASE, WOOKIE, ONE DARK MARTIAN, MJ COLE, WIDEBOYS etc, I often wonder what Dubstep would sound like with them at the controls. JAYBIRD'S remixes of "oh boy (hurt U so)" and "perculator" are always in rotation in my sets, but then again so isn't all off the UKG classics. including MYRON "get down" I went throw hell to find that record and always give it a proper beating.
At the end of the day, I'm not so much into WHAT U CALL IT but I do want it to be noted that UKG, in regards to how I view it, is the UMBRELLA that covers all the subgenres which includes Dubstep and the others mentioned. so UKG is very much alive and kicking from the perspective of this producer/dj.
