Reason 4 is a massive improvement to 3.

End of thread.

Is this true? how much better is the sound engine ?? do you have any proof?

I don't mean to be  but i've been told rewiring reason through logic is the way to up the sound quality of reason, is it worth learning logic to do this if reasons sound engine has been improved?

:o

You can rewire to anything or you can just stick a Mclass, EQ, Tape unit, limiter etc in between your Hardware interface and your mixer.

As default reason does sound a bit weak but you just need to warm it up a bit.

v4 is worth it for the Regroove mixer and Thor imo... but to be honest i could live without those and be happy with v3 if push came to shove

I really dont get that Regrove thing at all. Dont you get better results just hitting record and tapping out your drums?

Do you just stick drums in a robotic generic format and then use the Regroove to give it some feeling?! Do you use one of the templates?

The Regroove's just standard groove templates really, like those i use in Logic. Most of the time i will use unquantized sequences played in with an Akai MPD. then i will move hits manually to get the desired feel. But the Regroove is great for messing with rex files, adding swing to certain drum lines (hats mostly) and just for manipulating stuff to get rhythmic ideas. I mainly deal with the classic MPC60 templates, theyre quite authentic ;)

I gave it ago a while back. Think I stuck a hi hat on generic 8ths and tried some of the templates out but couldn't really get anything that felt nice tbh.

Why do you use rex files for hi hats btw? I never use the Dr Rex.

Brian Transeau aka BT, Ken Owen (former drummer of English grindcore/death metal band Carcass)The English electronica band The Prodigy have used Reason in the creation of their music.

IT SOUNDS LIKE SHIT.

but yea...somethin bout 12bits of "bouncing" power in 3.0 due to reason reserving 4bits for its "auxs"

4.0 fixes that though....and provides a true 16+ bit bounce stereo out of it on a standard soundcard far as i know...so to all the 3.0 heads, enjoy the decresed depth of your audio based on you not wanting to learn new software!!

is 3.0 / 12 bit ftw and im missing out here? or are people just not able to bootleg 4.0 as easily off the torents and therefor support 3.0 and babble about what they think they know ??

I dont ever use rex files for hi hats :) haha sorry for confusion!

i usually mess with percussion loops, ive got lots of strange glitchy bleepy rex's and perc loops that i cut up, and re-sequence and process to get ideas rolling

You see i moved into reason 4 and find it all good.

However can it be used singularly to create tunes or should the final mix down etc be routed through logic/cubase/pro tools etc for the sound to be better or can you make the whole thing in reason??

i posted this question here:

http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=74550

if there is anyone doing this i'd love a bit of advice...

i used to get a hardon for reason. loved 3, didnt need arpregiator if you knew how to work matrix properly
i installed 4, realised it didnt give me that much apart from devices that were like intrim versions of other devices that already exist.

i loved the way automation was used in reason 3 and found it much better drawing in automation or tweeking when you removed snap or made it 1/32

now im on 4 i decided "fk it time to try something new" and now im playing with ableton

so far so good

what use is the Matrix in reason? its just a basic sequencer isnt it?

it can also be used for really cool modulation stuff using its curve mode and CV... you can use it for very tightly sequenced pan or filter cutoff modulation for example, loads of things 8)

Never touched CV or Curve mode. What does CV stand for?:)

The Matrix just makes it easier but I am guessing I can do everything still with just the sampler?

matrix is a pattern sequencer but you can draw notes in it and then go into cv mode and complety mess with fequencies, when you wire this into vocoda and other shizzle it goes nuts :) really good fun

i messed about and made a track for a laugh to see what i could do with it back in the day. (excuse the quality but it was funny and its not dubstep)
http://www.dmoproductions.co.uk/music/UKCSVIBES.mp3

it changes all the way through and is long lol but all the melodies are using patterns and frequencies i made in matrix

the tool is sick
