A bare ass would have considerably more high end, while one with pants on would have more mid-range and sound more like a traditional snare.
well i usually layer my booty slaps to get a well rounded KA-PSSH. (a well known dubstep produced told me its a fatty for the low end and a brazilian for the bare slap.)

Completely depends on the context. Some of the snares in mid 80s hip hop productions are really snappy tho.
