I really feel that Mos has lost his hunger, but what to expect after movies with jack black and so on.
The black star years are way over and imo opinion Hiphop in it's original way (mc+lyrics+samples+beat=copies sold) is dead. But that's why we're looking for new ways to do things today, isn't it?

Huh, who knew Mos Def had a good record in him?
What are you talking about? Black On Both Sides is such a high level masterpiece, i doubt another artist will/has matched it for some time.

the second black star album never came out, so you're right about that.

IMO, that shit was weak.
I'm sorry, once we had dudes saying what was 'real', whether they're saying the gun is real, or the backpack is real, and we start drawing lines in the sand, we lose.
Kweli's garbage and sounds like a cartoon of a twerpy little brother. Mos was pretty weak. And that fucking bull-shit with Common drunkenly stumbling around all over the beat that everyone seems to love... Like... What? That's hot?

speaking on Talib and Madlib...
I was disappointed by Liberation. Maybe cuz it was a freebie so they figured ppl would grab it anyway, but it was a bit thin.

I think Mos Def is overrated... Made some incredible tunes (Mathematic) and incredible verses (B-Boy Document 99) but too rare. And his Black Star album with Kweli is very good. But as i mentioned above, way too overrated, there are more or less 500 MC's that are better than him
Had a quick listening to his new LP in my record dealer shop, but didn't convince me at all.
Anyway, man does his thing, people can think he's good (cuz he is) but it seriously pisses me off when i hear someone say "Mos Def is amazing"...

wherea mos has done some interesting tracks, albeit he's like an american rodney p, party focussed, weak on actual lyrical intricacy
that said he's knocked out some banging joints. the track with massive attack > so much..
the talib track with Morcheeba was a disgrace...he shoulda off it.

He played in New Orleans the other day
I'd rather listen to the new , " DOOM " LP " Born like this "
don't get me wrong, Black Star and , " Black on both sides" was dope "
I guess I'm just not into Mos Def anymore
