Couldn't agree more with £10bag.

FWIW I try to keep my whoring to a minimum, and do try to contribute in a meaningful way on this forum.
morphesis wrote: But I notice my rates are very competitive to alot of mastering companies out there !.....and from my experience I can do just as good a job ! but for half the price......something which should be really appealing in these times of economic melt down !
You mention companies, but I can't see your company number or registered office clearly on your website. Being a registered company director, I'm sure you know that that's a legal requirement.

I work freelance/sole trader and am not VAT registered, there is no legal requirement to be a registered company unless you are limited (as far as I know). Pretty sure my accountant would have advised me.

I pay my taxes and thats THE most important, one naughty tip off and you are history couldn't be dealing with that worry myself. I am afraid I could not live on GBP7.50 per track (after tax and NI) You would have to be mastering 20 tunes a day at that rate (maybe 25 x if you get a 25pct knockback) to make it worthwhile. (frankly I could not physically master 25 a day unless I was not doing my job properly)

There is tonnes of competition in this area and really you either have it or you don't. If you want time, care and expertise you need to pay a little more.

I charge what I know I have to for the quality and skill I offer.

Good luck anyway.

I pay my taxes also......my mastering services are mainly helping out friends and fellow producers from the labels I'm signed to

its by no means my main income and to be honest I only make very little from my mastering services

I'm not here to steal or take away anyones customers , like I said before....I'm here to help my fellow producers / friends

You mention in your previous post that if we send stems for the tracks it will cost a lot more. Why is this? Surely its not a huge job, if the parts are finished, you can apply the appropriate gain structure and leave yourself the headroom, surely thats not a huge job?

Of course I have very little idea about mastering, and not much more about mixing, but I am at the stage where I wouldnt mind getting a few tunes mastered, but I dont feel I have the mixing skills to get all the levels perfect before I send it off.

Isn't this a 5 minute job? Or am I missing a lot?

Had several Mixmag/iDJ/etc tune of the months, 2nd (or 3rd?) biggest selling release in the entire breaks catalogue on beatport (I think it was) in the last year, 10s of thousands of sales on releases of hip hop stuff, etc etc etc

Frankly that sort of thing is entirely irrelevant and not to be taken as a comment on mastering quality, IMHO of course. But you have to use what you have :)

you got it right ...
you are missing it

it takes way longer than 5 minutes

ask subvert central how long it takes to prep a stem mastering session, master the stems, and have a full product ready for delivery, (not to mention backup all the work)
I bet it is more than you thought (5 min)

prolly 20 to 50 times more than 5 mins

it is reasons like this why people charge what they charge

time is money

good people's time costs a lot of money

ps you pay for what you get
