yeah i remember when the grime lp came out i really didn't expect something so raw to come out of rephlex. when i first heard industrial graft, the music, camel ride, i couldn't really decide whether it was dark and industrial or funky and danceable... can't really go back to the time when this particular sound was completely new and unexpected...

the grime albums really put a giant spotlight on the sound. thousands of people caught on from those albums.

the only thing i think was a bad choice was using the word grime as the titles, because it caused a world of confusion. regardless, hats off to aphex / rephlex for doing what they did at a time when other bigger labels were not paying attention..

man i fucking love the old mrk1 and plasticman shit!

that set is rinsing, not feeling the slaughtermob one so much but it's still nice to hear all the old tunes with the energy of it all being new and exiting.

Bruno Belluomini wrote:Former Hyperdub site back in 2004 or 2005 had a lot of amazing mixes and wicked articles too... Some of the texts were published again at Riddim.ca... But the mixes... Only three or two are at the Mixes section I think... Kode posted them some time ago... I'd love to have these Rephlex mixes here too...
the site's basically in archive mode now but whenever i finally around to it i'm planning to add a section for classic/rare sets: rephlex night, big apple mixes, kode and blackdown groovetech mixes, original rips, darksideriddem sets, etc. but i move slowly and i'm easily distracted
big up man!

the bug's set was never recorded - just plastic and markones slt mobs sets

it was right the first one was called grime cos basically mark one and plasticman were grime djs or at least walked the line, second one is not grime really though.
funny how both those guys have since changed their names.

these are the sets which got me hooked to dubstep back in the day, don't know how many times I listened to them, but I just might put them on the ipod once again.
Sounds of the future, still!
