weird same as me, can i ask if you have any other midi devices setup? cause maybe that's why i have no issues

Yeah I have a NanoPad and Oxygen 8 set up as well. I think the reason you don't have any issues is that it depends on the VST you're using i.e. it needs to have CC data attached to a parameter that's the same as the controller you're using, and in general this has to be to a parameter that's noticeable during playback...otherwise I probably wouldn't have noticed it.

westcoast1, what are you using for your drums? you should be able to automate anything from the sequencer window, just click the button on the bottom left of the instrument / midi channel / audio channel track.

Just a really simple one that might have no solution:

I noticed when I right click on an audio file, in the menu there's a part that says "Plugins" and then lists every damn effects plugin I have and in general makes it a total pain in the ass to find anything else in the menu. I swear this didn't happen before, that the menu was cleaner and there was a little tab that would unfold that said Plugins on it instead.

Am I going crazy? Is there anyway to hide that huge mass of plugins in the right-click menu? If not, I don't understand why they do it in the toolbar menu but not in the right-click one...but I swear it didn't used to be there and I would have noticed it.

Right so on one of my cubase projects my usb keyboard has just stopped working. Cubase is still registering the input (the orange bar moves when I hit a key), but none of the instruments are controlled by it. It's only for one project, works fine on all other projects so i guess i must have pressed a button/ shortcut that has fucked it up. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks

check the input panel on the left hand side of the screen for the channel you want your midi keyboard to be affecting. look for midi inputs and make sure it says all midi devices (or if you want it to be specifically controlled by just one device) click and set to the appropriate midi controller you have connected.

hope that helps, if not i'll post a screenshot

The weird thing is that in the new project I just started, it's back to the way it was...I must have hit some keyboard shortcut that I didn't know about (that happens a lot). It remains a mystery...

question about cubase.

if i dont have a piano/keyboard, would cubase be easier or harder than FL studio?

learning curve to every program back when in golden days before cubase was as gui and user friendly as now, took me over a week to get a sound out of it from switching from fl
and i dont regret it for one second heh

All daws are relatively hard to learn because they all do so damn much. Like deadly says, if you hit something you don't know, it can just stop you in your tracks.

I would watch some tutorials on both programs, I would demo them out, and see what you like.

They are very similar, imo. Cubase requires a million and one keystrokes to do some simple shit though.

Cubase has a virtual midi keyboard in version 5 that lets you use your querty keyboard to input midi notes, I don't know if FL studio has one as I've never touched the prog in my life. I think that is what you were asking.

So i take it you do cubase. I'm going to download cubase and try it out. my friend who says its very confusing uses cubase from like 4 years ago called cubase LE or something like that.

Fruity does have and has had the qwerty keyboard to midi note thing for ever. Another addition to cubase that brings it that much closer to fruity.

Thought you had to own a previous version of cubase to get a trial of 5. More stupid thinking from steinberg, but trust me, that is just the tip of the iceberg.
