I don't even get what you're trying to illustrate there. I do think the notion that someone could only want to own a gun or to shoot someone in self-defense because of wanting to be a "badman" is retarded.
What about knowing that I'd be emotionally ready to do that is misguided or immature? My life is more important to me than ascribing to some unrealistic moral ideal.
...and I was never talking about situations in which someone is trying to rob you for unimportant shit like an iPod in the first place. I don't think taking a life is worth that, and I wouldn't put my own life at risk over anything that could be replaced..but if I knew that some people are inevitably going to seriously hurt and/or kill me or my loved ones, that's entirely different. I realize it's an unlikely scenario, but it's not something I want to gamble with. In the context of someone breaking into your house, you don't know what the fuck could happen and I wouldn't take any chances. That doesn't mean I want to carry around a gun and be a "badman" by shooting someone.

Who then do you think is more likely to get shot? The guy who owns the house who is submitting with their family? Or the guy who gets out their rusty 9mm under the bed to try and...I dont even know what?? John Mclane the fucking situation? Unless you actually are John Mclane im pretty sure 9/10 times youre going to be making what would have been a non violent situation suddenly life threatening. People arent out to kill people without needing to, but they will to protect their own life.
Baron, you're kind of flowing with some ideas here, but I really don't know how based in reality they are. I personally used a hand gun in self defense from a burglar / crazy man (with the dirtiest knife I've ever seen), and I thank god that I had that gun. Y'all can say what you want, you weren't with me that night. You want to talk about fear, that was some very real fear.
The notion that paranoia is the ruling factor... it is disrespectful and ignorant. You are ignorant of the situation here, yet you feel confident to pronounce judgement. With that said, haha, there is a lot of paranoia here. When Obama was elected, assault rifle prices, what doubled, tripled! It is ridiculous.
But still, I feel safer from very real threats, ie I don't have to live in fear, because I own a gun.

it just seems very confused
you dont think shooting someone is a 'next level accomplishment' (strange terms but i'll go with it), i take that you mean its not a hard thing to see yourself doing, shooting someone...
right, so then we go to the point where you think I have a 'retarded and immature' attitude to guns... that i think the average person carrying a weapon or owning one is more of a risk to themselves than a person who doesn't carry or own a gun... okay.
then we have the endless backpeddling from the start of this thread where you stated a few times you'd consider the concealment laws, using the robbery as an example, to now where you say its 'an unlikely scenario'
then we have the CONSTANT refusal to read what my actual views on this are, that i've endlessly, endlessly repeated...
im really trying here, to not boy you completely, cos im not a dick, im really not
i just think you sound kind of confused
you keep bringing up morality and ideals... and then say that its ME who's projecting onto you??
i've stated a few times its not really a moral case im putting forward - its just to do with the best course of action for ensuring your own personal safety

yeh i've thought that too... but im bored waiting to go out so im still replying
either way, we've probably gone as far as we can....
...it's ridiculous that you guys think you're in any position to tell me I don't need a motherfucking gun. : |
she got shot because she attempted to fight them off...
this is what im talking about
if you had a gun in that situation i reckon you'd be dead mate, you're no gangster, you make garage tunes and chat shit on an internet forum lol
posessions aren't that important to shoot someone over for trying to take your fucking ipod
jesus christ
this makes me sad
if someone stole my ipod I'd be mega pissed tbh.

That's not what I was talking about at all. I agreed with you about most people not needing to carry one around from the beginning. I was merely criticizing the idea that the only reason someone could want to own a gun or shoot someone in self defense is because of a desire to be a "badman", because I thought that's what you were getting at initially. I can understand why you may have thought that I was coming from that kind of wannabe gangster angle because of what I said to clifford-, but I really just meant that I think the idea that no one should be allowed to own guns legally is on some passive shit. People deserve the right to defend themselves in their homes, and I know I would if it came down to it. Out of fear. Not because of anything I have to prove to anyone else. Nor do I think that fighting back/shooting would DEFINITELY work in my favor...but look at what cooperating got the victims of the Wichita massacre. It would be just as misguided to straight up believe that that cooperating will always lead to the best outcome, I don't see how you could logically disagree with that.

Yeah, I'm not participating in a debate, think that is about showmanship which is amusing to an extent, just not something I'm interested in doing. I'm merely making my point of view public, and let whomever do with it what they want. I don't think minds are changed suddenly, instead, its the slow accumulation of points of view that builds a fuller understanding of a particular situation. IMO at least
But still, America, WTF!

a.) gun control would be useless at this point in regards to crimes due to the amount of guns already in this country and that it's easier to get an illegal gun rather than legal
b.) there are shooting ranges and classes for a reason, that is where the average joe who buys a gun for security fails (and proper maintenance)
c.) see b, not every shot is a lethal one
d.) trigger locks and gun cabinets/safes, if you have a gun, you should own one especially if you have kids
e.) concealed carry has exclusion rules for a reason, just because you can get a concealed carry permit, doesn't mean you should

That might work where your at, but dogs aren't bulletproof in the states.
I mean of all the things someone who doesn't live here could complain about, it's something that only relates or affects Americans. Are other countries so problem free that they have to worry so much about our domestic issues?
If anything, bitch about the wars and shit.
Also, I think you'd have a real change of heart if you came and lived in Oakland for a month or two, I'm sure the people along San Pablo Ave. would love to discuss your philosophy.
