critical sound system wrote:Hi guys
i just uploaded a tune i'm working on atm.
i've been messing around for some times to get the jungle touch.
the track is raw.
advices welcome
It's unmastered and not fully mixed but hopefully it's enough to hear where I'm going with it.

Really digging it so far, good start. The wobble on the bass is good, nice variety there. I would make the bass chunkier and deeper though, because it's not really hitting my sub the way it should. You should start by EQ'ing the bass a bit higher, and if that doesn't work then export a new version of the bass with no effects on it but the wobble, load it into a new mixer track, and cut out everything but the sub (make sure it's not interefering with your kicks), then cut out the sub from the original wobble, and then play both at the same time. That way you'll get the dirt on the top end and but the sub will still pump like a motherfucker.
The vocal loop is good, it works with the song. I would whack some more reverb on there, but that's about all I can think of. If you're having trouble isolating those annoying clicks on the high shelf you have a few options:
- First try just EQ'ing the vocals, see if you can get rid of the click that way
- Also make sure that you put the EQ after any effects, because if you have reverb or something on there after the EQ then it could make the sound bleed all over the place.
- You could try using a compressor on a "vocals" or "declick" setting
- Then you can try loading it up into an audio editor like Audacity or Edison (the one that's built into FL Studio), and use the declick tool or just manually delete the clicks from the waveform
- If nothing works then you can try going at it with a hatchet in EQUO and just cutting out any frequencies that click, even if it alters the vocals, and then use EQ and reverb to bulk the vocals back out. This will change the style of vocals though, so be use it only as a last resort.
Only other thing I would say is that the drums are very weedy, and while this generally works with the track, I would put a lot more reverb on the snare, a little bit on the kick, and just generally make the drums beefier.
But all criticism aside, it's a good start and a promising track. Now go finish it!

Your criticism is much appreciated! thank you man i will go try that! i tried boosting the bass on that wobble but it just drowned everything out, i tried to get it even but i believe your method will definitely help. bigups man and thanks again!

Digging it so far, you've nailed the dubstep "vibe." I think the track needs more of a structure though-- it just kind of hovers around, and doesn't really go anywhere. Even a chill track like this should probably have some sort of build-- maybe take the drums out again for a few bars, then drop a slightly heavier wobble and drum pattern? Not trying to turn it into a banger or anything but even Burial tracks have drops... I dunno.
On the production side everything sounds fine to me-- making a mix like this come together is a skill and you've pretty much nailed it. I like the crispness of the drums and all the ambient little noises that float around in the back.

Spot on, absolutely spot on. The second drop was way too weak, and that sapped a lot of the momentum and push of the track. Here's a new version of the track-- I pretty much completely re-worked the 2nd drop, so hopefully it will melt some faces this time around. There's also a ton of little tweaks and changes to the structure and the mix. Shit is coming together, but slowly-- I need more feedback on this track! If you hate it then tell me, but also tell me why.

Alright I need some serious feed back on this tune, both bad and good. Should I switch up the second drop? gonna be shipping off to a couple lables next week.Soundcloud
The structure is good. The kicks are not popping out enough for me though, and the synthesized dialog sounds harsh to me, like it is too loud, but then again mixing down and levels is a weak point for me.
Anyways, give a penny, take a penny, here is a new one I am working on:
Not sure how I feel about the snares, whole thing is kind of tribally to me, and I should probably work in a bit of automation on a few elements plus some more edits at the end of 8- or 16-bars. Actually have two or three other tunes in various stages, so I might throw them up too; they're a bit older though, been sitting around a while.
