I love the sense of space you get with tracks with just a sub as bass. I gravitate more towards that side personally but still nothing wrong with some midrange. Ikonika's Millie is a good example of using midrange in a really cool way :D

As long as it still sounds like the aural equivalent of a merciless prison rape, like Borgore's music, I don't care.

Not to be a jerk at all (seriously), but it seems that everything new in dubstep in 2005 is new again. this is not a bad thing-- shit is still fresh!

I'm not having a go or anything I am just interested in peoples opinion as to why they always need a mid range bassline as well as a sub.

I personally think that 90% of tunes what have a mid range bass would be 20 times better without it, I like having harmonic warmth from the melody/pads/other weird sounds in my own tunes and from the tunes I buy and play out - this is a common trend.

SO thats my personal opinion, whats yours?
Yep I agree.

So where are your beats man?:D not many people seem to be into the sub bass driven music...

edit, found the link! nice work, very chilled.

Yeah, I don't think the idea is to have a complete hole in the freq spectrum between 150 and 1500 hz, but to leave that range open to things other than screechy "bass."

I don't know. Maybe beacause you can have more "texture" wtih midrange stuff.
A sub is a sub. You can add overdrive, feedback, use a square/sin/tri but using stéréo fx is dangerous.

With a midrange bass you can do what you want, more processing, more movement,
And a midrange bass don't necessarily mean "mongolian puking droid"

Make a tune without one - and post it here, it can be like a minute long - just experiment with filling frequencies with other sounds - its fun!

And for the hell of it, I will make my next tune with a dirty mid range bassline.
Good Idea:) I'll post some of my subby tunes Ive been working on here soon....
