To be honest as long as it other scene's editing your tunes you've got nothing to worry about. The situation in breaks where every other tune seems to be a remix or edit of another is a worrying sign (not meaning to slag of this edit).

that whole 'dubblestep' thing was hilarious.

edits are very commonplace in breaks. lack of good original material at the moment IMHO.

someone did that to a an unreleased dubstep tune of mine.. then put link on facebook for a free download of it.. i went mental.. having no permission to do re-edit is out of order!!!

I think I'd be a bit miffed if someone edited my track before it was even released. this is bit different tho. did they credit you?

Its built from a scene of remixing other genres, as is any electronic genre, there are fresh tracks and remixes / bootlegs in every scene and dubstep is not any different, just think of all the dub type dubstep, and ragga jungle, hip hop, all of of it takes samples from other genres.

in the graf world, if someone you don't know is bombing your pieces all over town with their own pieces, its war. you've spent days doing a mural on a street corner, and then somebody you don't know from another neighborhood, puts their bullshit all over the top of it. thats not being re-inspired by art. thats not pushing creativity. that's just being mediocre in front of thousands of people.

Agreed. The difference with music discussed here is how the remixes are being delivered to us. If its done with some creativity, tact & respect .. the remix goes over much better. Its not what you say its how you say it.

see this argument fails cause when you cross somebody the original piece gets destroyed. when you edit a tune, the original is still there in all its glory.

writers do tribute pieces in classic styles all the time. whos got re edited more than dondi? lol..

and borrowing letters and forms is par for the course.

matter of fact, writers take all kinds of imagery... id even say MOST productions are based around a theme thats jacked from somewhere...


Hiphop is sample based, the edit is a natural extension. its all about flexing your style, and creativity is absolutely getting pushed.

without building on other music music would not have the chance to evolve for better or worse...

take the huge amount of toasting samples used to great effect in jungle/garage as well as dubstep to great effect...surely using these lines in totally the wrong context to improve your art and express yourself is worse than doing an edit of something and not change much for ease of use?
