This limit to your love tune sounds poo, I don't know how else to say it. Not a great voice, seriously crap lyrics. It has an air of 'dubstep producer x remixes pop sensation Plan B (or whoever the fuck is on TOTPs at the moment) in the way it jumps between the vocal and electronic parts.

I completely see where you're coming from but at least its originally structured and a true cover of a track - I mean, someone slapping a vocal over a beat and calling it a remix and someone covering a song are two different things, no?

Some people will 'get' it and some people won't.. But this just makes me think of how early dubstep used to be, it was proper marmite in a sense where everyone kind of appreciates it but doesn't find it their thing! Instead of just down, out-right 'hate' (gawd I really dislike 'hating' as a saying)!

And to everyone who says they have shit vocals - who cares? aslong as you have good content and can some-what hold a note it don't really matter, like someone said above - the bob dylan effect! Granted, hes a one off but theres plenty of ok-ish vocalists who make amazing tracks! Plus you could always go for the spoken word business and pitch down your vocals

I say sing, it's like facial hair, there is no normative ideal. Grow the facial hair god gave you, it's your birthright.

indeed, some people can get away with it but most can't. i'd like to think i have enough character to get away with it but i don't, the wise option is to get someone who can sing to do it for me. why let the track end up not as good just because of sheer stubbornness.

but some have better voice hygiene then others...

ive witnessed some pretty radical changes in singing skills allthru my life...

+ u dont have to be on scale, u just have to be confident, and be on scale sometimes... but confidence... its kinda like with any sound

James Blake is a great talent and knows what he's doing with his production but I hope we don't get a load of copycat middle class ruperts thinking they can throw down some cut up acoustic guitars, singing about teenage love.

Just recently got a portable audio recorder, so I'm def about to put my 8 years of improv guitar into this new electronic stuff I've been doing. Also about to sample the fuck out of my school (arts school, so easy access to dope singers/drummers/horns etc etc). Totally on the hype for this side of dubstep.

for me, it is obvious that james blake is a very talented guy who just happened to start producing and releasing music at a time when dubstep was big. i see him moving on and varying his sound even more.

i would not be surprised at all if in say, 5 years, certain people say they had hoped he would stick to the 'dubstep sound', similar to how some aphex and autechre fans reminisce over the simpler, 'ambient techno' sound.

it would be a real shame if he restricts what he does, because i think he has what it takes to make some truly new sounding stuff

Always thought dubstep as a label didn't fit well what he was doing. Think the same of Burial too, so wtfdIk.
