In response to the OP ... Ive been making electronic music as a hobby for over 10 years ... the internet has been my learning ground ... I also have 20+ books on various music topics.
I started with trance, then progressive and now dubstep. In the 10 years, the dubstepforum and dogsonacid have been the most informative places for music. Without them I would not be able to make dubstep. When I was into trance and went on trance.nu for production knowledge, it was very hard to find and no one would share anything. Only person I found that would is BT, but you could only find that in interviews. Granted, the dubstep and dnb community arent as sharing of their secrets as metal (my bro is a metal head) but its the best out of any other genre. I think you have everything you want on this board in terms of sound design, along with DOA. The rest is pure creativity. I learned how to make the datsik, skrillex, noisia, sounds and I almost never use them because when I get creative its my own flow and style. I find that now to be the hardest thing. To sit there for hours and make something that sounds cool and is MUSIC not just cool noises.
Also, there is sooo much more to progress. Im in love with what Nero is doing. A mature dubstep sound. I think dubstep still has lots to grow. Its an awesome fusion of various electronic music styles.
And to share something cool: I read a few times how deadmau5 uses foley sounds in his tracks. Then I heard it in feed me and skrillex songs (cinema remix you can hear birds at the begining, feed mes remix of robyn has water flowing at the end of the track). Then I started to and its amazing how much more life my tracks have because of a few foley sound. Some dnb guys combine foley sound with their reese sound design like billain for very organic bass sounds.
