You're right, but El-B did some 4x4 stuff. Some of the earlier Groove Chronicles was 4x4 (although Noodles was the driving force there really), El-B collab'd with Karl Brown on some 4x4 tunes though, production outfit called El-Tuff, probably a bit too bumpy/funky to be 'dark' though!

Weren't the 4x4 tunes by Groove Chronicles more Todd Edwards'y? Not really dark, at least.

My point wasn't that GC made 'dark' 4x4, which they didn't particularly, more that they weren't strictly a 2-step outfit.

finally got round to picking out a pile of 4x4 recorded and bashed this together. not the slickest of mixes but a militant selection to make up for it
even included a hobsons choice 4x4 remix in it for whoever mentioned it
