Gamers these days are pussies.

You just have to play this game very conservatively and pace yourself
ahhh...the days when saving your game meant leaving your console on overnight
Super Mario 3 (where he was a racoon & could fly) was a Marathon. You basically had to start at noon and be prepared to sit there until midnight and hope your mother didn't bump the console or the power cord

Picked this up after a couple of weeks considering it and really glad i did. Probably one of the best games i have played from 2011!

Currently about 22 hours in and have just got out of Blighttown (thank god!) after beating Quelaag first go. Now working my way through Sen's Fortress.

Sens is the one of the biggest fuckery things in the whole game.

As all guides will say; get the lightning spear asap. It makes the most sense to not wear any armour till you get past the bit where the rock can fall down 4 directions, you need to be as fast at running as you can.

Its deffo in my top 3 of my life in games. They're announcing something on their facebook at the moment - sources say its going to the PC release but From Software bought the copyright to something called "Darken Forest" or some shit like that a few months ago so they might have DLC forthcoming as well, so maybe its both!? Either way - shit a brick I am excited.

PC version confirmed. DLC would be sick, i'm sure. I started it on 360, but i'm going to wait til i get it for ps3 to actually do anything in it. Does it surpass demon's souls?

Its 20 times better, but don't quite get the comparison.

Dark Souls isn't full of pointless places, empty landscapes, tonnes of unwanted travel and terrible combat; if thats what you're asking.

Dark Souls is grim and challenging with perfect battle mechanics. Nothing feels out of place nor doesn't make sense. It is basically the peak of dark action adventure games for this generation. With the AAA companies there are these days (who only have the budget to do a game of this magnitude); I don't think you'll get a better game in its category.

Not even close to the same man. It's more like zelda, if i had to compare it to a game.
Also, what ledge said. It's glorious. Better than skyrim by a long-shot, unless you're a poon. And i LOVE skyrim.

I find it quite a grind / punitive game. pro tip: when you get into the first dungeon after the asylum and you are under the bridge, grind a bit and buy a bow. keep hitting the dragon's tail until it dies, will reward you a sword. You can also try and kill the first Asylum boss that you should run away from, it will reward you a nice axe.

Sweet, cheers for the tips ledge. I am a Bandit so am slow as fuck  but I have the lightning spear with +1 now so will see how much of a difference that makes.

Yeah would agree on how good this game is, love it. Doubt I will get Skyrim now I have this.

I had the Lightning Spear till I made the Lifehunt Scythe which was about 2 bosses a go (I got the final boss left); its SUCH a beast - I highly recommend it to a character which has the weight to use something heavy.

Senns is where the game gets way to fun though; I couldn't put it down after I got past it, Anor Londo, The Great Hollow (unless you went there when you did Blight town?), Crystal Cave, Dukes Archives, Dark Root Basin, Painted World of Ariamis ; all sick, sick, sick places!

In my (humble) opinion I think once you get past Senns is where you as a character are not under powered compared to everything else - you don't struggle to kill things anymore its all just about dodging and keeping your gear upgraded; I found it pretty easy to do the next 5-6 areas in the game without any grinding or too much backtracking.

I wish I'd known the game gets even better; I wouldn't of put it off for a few months due to frustration other wise haha!

Is the artwork as dark as in demon's souls? That had to be one of my favorite things about the game, other than the gameplay.

Haven't played demon souls but the general consensus from /r/darksouls is Demon Souls is a lot darker but Dark Souls is still pretty dark; it has a few very, very pretty areas which have Gothic architecture but are not black and grey which is a nice contrast on the general grim vibe of the game

Check out Anor Londo, Crystal Caves and Dukes Archives screen shots; they're the main "pretty" places I can think of?

Anyone wanting a game to tie you over till From Software do another action RPG should be looking at this; it looks brilliant.

Just got into blight town, fucking poison swamp.

i ended up summoning people for the first few boss battles cus i was a pussy til i got to the moonlight butterfly/capra demon. Capra doesnt really give you a choice, he normally killed me before my summon got through the white light. Really satisfying to kill them solo though.

As a result of all that summoning and being human though I used to get wiped out by invading spirits. Did find it well annoying, til I managed to kill 2/3 of them in the depths when i was farming large titanite shards and now i kinda want it to happen.

Using a +10 halberd, wanted to start using some miracles but the covenant guy has ran off with his buddies
