avoidpi wrote:Is it worth seeing Skream & Benga live nowadays? I was thinking I should just go because it's probably the closest thing to Dubstep I'm going to get in Canada (brostep infested man, it's crazy up here). I just don't want to hear Skrillex being dropped, it's going to kill me if I see Skream do that to me. :/
Back to the original question, I would say they are more than likely to play Skrillex & 'kill you,' lol.
YOU will probably be disappointed based on what YOU have said, i have seen them 2/3 times this year and they have mainly played a 'festival' style set regardless of the venue/night.
Tune selections i remember being Skirllex, Circus Records, Killing in the Name of, DJ Fresh, Dismantle, more electronic sounding skream tunes, benga tunes, magnetic man etc... So an all round mashup of the 'harder' electronic music styles.
So without getting into a massive argument about people saying whats shit and whats good, and the right to give an honest opinion to the question -
those are the facts based on the 2/3 times i have seen them in 2011, take it as you wish.
Personally, Im going to save my money next time and support them by buying Fatty Drummer & the new Skreamizm when they're out & continue to play they're music. I would say thats enough to show my thanks & support for what they have done/are doing

whether or not that is the case i really didnt enjoy their set at DMZ (and it was not just me who thought that), obviously he's a legend in the scene and has put out some game-changing tunes that i still love. i just didnt enjoy his set at DMZ, OP asked for opinions and i gave mine, i fail to see why this is so problematic, this is a discussion board after all
how would you feel if someone asked how much you're worth as a DJ on an international forum with thousands of members? would that feel good? would $25 feel right? would $10 feel right? people have a right to ask questions, be critical, speak their mind, but if the question is set up the way it was what do you expect will happen, when you're talking about one of the biggest names in the sound?
It's really very simple, OP asked for opinions on whether he should go see skream and benga and i said that the last time i saw them i thought they were a bit shite, i'm still struggling to see where the problem with that is... as i have said before, i still love plenty of their tunes and play them alot, i just wasnt very impressed at DMZ
i doubt either skream or benga going to loose much sleep over the fact that 1 person expressed a negative opinion on just one of many thousands of sets they have played over the years
first of all, its not 1 person in this thread having an opinion, and you miss the point completely if you think this is about negative/positive opinions on the internet.
are you kidding me? they get shots fired at them all the time. this thread is nothing, in comparison, and trust me they have flights to catch and airports to land in, leave alone worries about who wants to have a go at them on DSF!
the point i'm making is that there's a lot of cowards on this forum hiding behind screens, ready to take amateur shots at popular DJ's for a little bit of net attention. its all those people, i'll always take issue with. its one thing to say that someone who DJ's to 100 people on a friday night is worth X amount of your time/money. its another thing to say that a DJ that plays for 5,000 to 25,000 people on any given week, is worth x amount of your time/money. those two DJ situations just don't compare.
can someone point out to me the relevancy of this statement?
if anything, i think mods should be working hard to protect the up and coming names in the game--keeping dubstep politics out of the picture for producers and DJs who are just starting to get their feet on the ground--rather than getting mad when their big name DJ friends are viewed negatively. as far as i'm concerned the only person who took it there was you, seckle, and skream doesn't need your help to continue touring the world and making ca$h off of what thousands of people continue to support.
