When coming to america for the 1st time I was shuffled into line with serious imigration things (blokes being led off in handcuffs by armed cops etc) scared the shit outa me i can tell u.. went up to the bird upfront and she told me then and there I had to prove to her that i wasn't going to use my records and mic for monetary gain whilst on a visa waver. suffice to say I blagged it.

as for prices for DJ visa I believe it's 5k and lasts for 3years.
Big Bud got skenged last time he was coming out and purchased one.. swears by it now..

Long and short of it is simple on ur myspace.. if ur planning on playing in other countires dun list the gigs just put USA VACATION or something, get me.

Customs find out your DJ bumholio or whatever, do a search for bumhoilo on google and find out that your playing 3 gigs in their country in the next 2 days or whatever.

they'd have to actually prove you were being paid though innit, and that it was a work thing. presumably most DJs dubstep-wise are paid cash in hand? Unless customs got hold of contracts I'm not sure how they'd be able to prove that you were working as such..

can't help thinking customs have bigger fish to fry.....

the thing especially with US customs is they're pretty agressive...if you're like "oh im over here to just play for a mate's birthday or something", they'll probs ask for his name, address, how you know him etc then even go and call him up. and still, it's up to you to prove you're not getting paid. even when i went to the usa last year just on holiday with mates, as i was leaving the airport (after getting our bags, going through checks etc), a policewoman pulled us to one side and gave us a little questioning ("how did 3 young men like you get the money to come to america?" etc...you can't give them any shit back cos they'll just kick you out

pretty recently i think some big drum and bass artists (maybe kubix and lomax?) got to USA customs, then were literally just turned away and had to get on a flight back to the UK straight away cos the customs had checked their myspace and knew they were coming....

dark...you cant really fuck with those customs officials

Unfortunatly scince USA got rid of INS (immigration) and made it all Homeland Security they need no reason whatsoever to just turn u around and send u back. As for burden of proof.. that lies solely on traveler.

things that are always good/esential when coming to the states.
1. money - cash/travellers checks/credit cards
2. full name and address of someone ur "visiting". Be sure and know them too.
3. smart attire. Believe it or not ur less likely to get pulled if u dress smart/casual. if u come thru rocking creps and hoodies and dayglo shit they're obviously gonna look a bit closer at u. try and dress like a wel to do middle class person who is on vacation from being a chartered accountant.

wasn't quite as bad but had a similar experience in canada a couple of years back.

they questioned us pretty thoroughly - was really awkward because they were asking stuff like "what do you plan to do here," and "where are you staying." we'd only booked a hostel for 3 days, and had absolutely no real plan for the entire time we were there...

Getting through u.s immergration is pretty scary i agree. Took me about 2 hrs to get through in the end. After a 14 hr flight the whole story u'd been working on the whole flight is out the window. you smell of fart and all u want is a freshen up.

"Why u here..i er.. how do u know this person...we ..er.... met on a forum". suprised i didnt get locked up.lol.

Worth the hassle though.
