one thing that's kinda amusing about dubstep is the "step" that came from 2-step is long gone. a lot of the bingo beats stuff still had that steppy feel. doesn't seem like anybody is pushing that sound anymore which is a shame cos it is killer.

Listened to the stuff that's been mentioned so far and I've come across a lot of great tunes. Really need to get some of those things on wax quickly

guessing there is quite a large scene in Netherlands yeah? Still meaning to get over there.

But back to the point yeah I have been feeling alot of the break influenced Dubstep for a while since the direction in garage went kinda breaky with Darquan El B etc... but yeah nice variety really, love some of dub childs bits and Search & Destroy, Vex'd.

Cheers man, glad you're liking it. Yeah Holland has a great dubstep scene, lots of massive parties and good dj's, and everyone knows eachother, nice friendly vibes all over the place

There aren't any breakcore pioneers in your list..apart from maybe a Godflesh remix from 95,and the first few Panacea records. I don't really see what influence breakcore has on the breakstep stuff though. Most of it's more influenced by drum n bass/jungle i'd say. And not the macho stuff like limewax etc

umm, el-b is, for one.

i agree, i LOVE this stuff and there should be more of it, but you need to search the people out. check out the track purify on untold's ep on hessle audio. obviously no one makes stuff EXACTLY like that cos those 2 tunes have already been done (which i might add, are both very different). You need to look under the surface though. it's not like el-b was a huge name when he made that.

I've just got back from miami so I'm in recovery mode, once I'm sorted I'll gladly post something on how I see breakstep from the origins to the present day.

One thing I will say now is, ya'll are missing out on a ton of music that falls into the vibes your describing. Tearout breaks when done properly is for the most part rolling drums and twisted pacey blines, check out the mechanoise/breaksfm/hardcore beats/waveshape/downbeat/guerilla tactics/tipper music/cyberfunk catalogues, and that's just for starters. The thing with sub genres is that they often end up pretty niche because a lot of people that would soak up the sounds have no clue that it even exists under that name.

Choice one bro. Well looking forward to it. I totally hear ya on the falling between the cracks stuff and the cross genre stuff.

I suppose i could go back and re write a more comprehensive cough* history*cough but it was more a personal reflection straight of the top of dome and hopefully inspiration for someone more knowledgable than i to contribute to and maybe as a point of entry for those new to the sound and it's connection to dubstep to look into.

i wouldn't say we're missing out on that stuff -- just wouldn't call it breakstep. not that i have ANY interest in some wacky academic argument about the "breakstep" label cos obviously like any genre name people define it in different ways. but it seems to me that tearout is tearout and breakstep differs in the drum patterns. miles davis said you can define any style of music by the rhythm. that's how i see it.

haha ok ok i got an opinion of course. but i have said all along that there are many histories, people use genre names in different ways, and so on.. there are some boards where genre definition flame wars carry on 24/7. those people really need to get out more.
